Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN MAY BATENCHUK It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on May 11, 2013 at the age of 88 at the Health Sciences Centre. Our mother silently left her earthly body, releasing her from physical pain to become a free spirit. Mom was born on April 10, 1925 in Riverton, MB to parents Steve and Mabel Speeder. Lovingly remembered by her son Gordon, daughter Shirley (Lloyd), granddaughters Carrie (Tom), Leanne (Scott) and great-grandsons Aiden and Duncan. Predeceased by her husband Tony, daughter Gloria, sister Mary and brother Bill. Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg in 1951 where they raised their family in the West End of the city. Mom worked for Parkhill Bedding where she became an accomplished upholsterer, long after she retired she continued to restore furniture. In 1971 they moved to a five acre plot of land on River Road in St. Andrews where her love of gardens and outdoors was evident. Mom grew vegetables and beautiful flowers and even raised chickens. She had a deep everlasting love for her land and family, on Sundays and holidays Mom would take great pride in preparing holopchi, perogies, and great desserts. Mom and Dad also enjoyed lake life, especially fishing, either at West Hawk Lake where we had a trailer for many years, or up north at The Narrows. Mom moved to Lions Place five years ago where she made many friends. She faced her illnesses with courage and determination. Mom was supportive, generous and loyal. She had a zest for life, a kind heart and had an indomitable spirit. Remember Mom by showing kindness, grow a garden, love one another and celebrate each day. She succumbed to her illness making peace with her life. A special thank you to the home care workers at Lions Place and nursing staff at H.S.C.-GD5. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mom's life will be held this summer where her ashes will be interred at St. Andrews on the Red.
