PETER WIGORSKI April 25, 1922 - May 19, 2013 With surprise, and sadness our family announces the passing of Peter. Until recently, he led a very active social life, as well as maintaining his residence and cottage. In 1939 as Hitler's Germany attacked Poland, Peter was taken prisoner and interned in a remote Siberian slave labour camp (Gulag). After his release, he was deployed to Iran, Iraq, Palestine, and then to Egypt, where the 2nd Polish Corps formed and joined the British 8th Army for the invasion of Italy. After the war, unable to return to Poland, Peter immigrated to Canada and settled in Lethbridge, where he met and married Wandzia. He worked for the Midland and Canadian Pacific Railways until his retirement at age 65 years. Peter was a member of the Polish Combatants Association #13 and a member of Holy Ghost Parish. Peter received a number of military medals. Peter loved the outdoors and found great joy in his grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by his wife Wandzia. He leaves to mourn daughters Danusia (Diana), and Irenka (Irene) and their husbands Rich Ludwick and Neil Okumura, grandchildren Dallas and Teralynn Ludwick, Chad and Ciara Okumura, sister Stefa Le Roux, and extended family in South Africa. Friday, May 24, at 9:30 a.m. praying the Rosary will precede the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. 204-586-8044

  • Diana, so sorry to hear of your father's passing. It had been a rough road this last while but I do remember some of the stories you told me of your Dad, especially his love of dancing. He lived life to the fullest as I recall and you have so many good memories of him. Peace to you, Rich, and your family.
