VALIJA KARLINA PREIMANIS January 4, 1912 - May 17, 2013 Peacefully, with family by her side, Valija Preimanis passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 101 years. Valija will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Silvija (Ansis); grandson Rudy (Karen); granddaughter Aldija (Darwin), and great-granddaughter Kaelyn. Valija was predeceased by her husband Janis in 2011. She was also predeceased by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; one nephew and one niece in Latvia. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm in Matisos, Latvia. She survived two world wars; immigrated to Canada in 1948 with her family and settled in Winnipeg. Valija was active in the Latvian Community especially Daugavas Vanagi. A special thank-you to the home care workers especially Donna and the staff at Riverview Health Centre. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place Friday, May 24, 2013 at Brookside Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. If friends wish, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
