CLAIRE JACQUELINE KAWAI (nee VADEBONCOEUR) September 22, 1954 - May 1, 2013 With great sadness we announce that Claire passed away on May 1 in Mississauga, Ontario with her family by her side. She will be deeply missed by her husband Steve, sons David and Paul, parents Loraine and Roger Vadeboncoeur, sisters Louise (Michael) Costello, Suzanne (Gerry) Brisson and their families. Claire was predeceased by her brother John Vadeboncoeur. The family was deeply touched by the presence and shared stories of numerous friends and neighbours who gathered in her memory on May 7 in Mississauga. Born and raised in St. Boniface, Claire lived most of her adult life in Mississauga where she devoted herself to her family, her garden and its creatures, her dogs and her multiple artistic pursuits. Never seeking recognition, Claire used her creative talents to enrich the lives of children through her tireless volunteer work for ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development in Mississauga. To honour her dedication to this work, a contribution may be made to ErinoakKids online.

  • Though I do not know Claire per se, I feel a connection via her "Tapestry" album. The summer of 1971 was a time when Suzie, Rita and I would hang out and spend days listening to Carole King at your beautiful house on Brebeuf. On May 28, President Obama bestowed the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song upon Carole. As she performed her songs on a PBS broadcast, the fond memories of that Tapestry album and the carefree days of 1971 came back. My thoughts brought me back to the Vadeboncoeur women. I had no idea at the time that Claire had passed. My Mom told me the sad news this evening. Shall we dedicate "So Far Away" to Claire? - Posted by: Michelle Turenne-Smith (Teen friend of Suzanne) on: Jun 07, 2013

  • I did not know Claire but have a connection via sister Suzanne. We "borrowed" her Tapestry LP and listened to it forever. It was 1971 and Carole King was the 2013 recipient of the 3 - Posted by: Michelle Turenne-Smith (Teen friend of Suzanne) on: Jun 07, 2013
