Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES N. W. BUDD February 24, 1917 - May 13, 2013 We all have one long, last trip to make. Jim started out on his on May 13, 2013. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sally Powers Kaslow with whom he spent many happy times between their homes in Sechelt, BC and Solvang, California. Sally brought joy to his last 20 years. Jim's first marriage of 53 years, was to Catherine (Kay) Avent, who passed away in 1993. From their union, Jim leaves behind 36 progeny to carry out their life adventures. His children are: Diane Marshall of Toronto (Michael Cowie and Sonoko Nonaka of Gibsons, Liz Marshall and Lorena Elke of Toronto, Paul Cowie and Miranda Kastrukoff of Gibsons,); Carolyn Goertzen and Peter Goertzen of Surrey, BC (Ted Beutler and Lorana Gonzales Beutler of Nanaimo, Rebecca Parker of Nanaimo); Nancy Denham and John Denham of Sechelt (Katherine Denham of Sechelt, Joseph Denham and Amy Bespflug of Halfmoon Bay, BC, Alison Denham and Billy Marchenski of Vancouver, BC); Jim Budd Jr. and Debbie Mealia of Roberts Creek (Maria Hampvent and Jeremy Hampvent of Roberts Creek, Jeremy Budd and Carla Arduin of Vancouver, Julia Budd and Lance Gibson of Port Moody, Katie Budd and Daniel Nezil of Kamloops, BC). The name on his and Sally's home in Sechelt reads LOTZAGRANKIDS of which there are to date, 20 great-grandchildren! Jim served with the Canadian Army from August 1941 to January 1946 in Canada and overseas. His overseas service ended when he was posted to the Staff Captain's Course at the Royal Military College in Kingston. He was a Captain when honorably discharged in 1946. He had a successful career of over forty years with Investors Group, including ten years at head office in Winnipeg. As President of Investors Syndicate during that time, he was head of the marketing organization of the Group. While in Winnipeg, Jim served as the 1969 Campaign Chairman of the United Way and on the Board of Regents for the University of Winnipeg. He spent 17 years as a member of the Board of the Wawanesa Insurance Company. Jim and his wife Kay moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1974 where he served as a Board Member and Treasurer of St. Mary's Hospital and as a Board Member and President of the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. Throughout his life he generously contributed to many charitable causes and cultural events. He spent long creative hours painting and gardening in his retirement. Jim leaves this message to his family: "Have a good appreciation of your God-given talents and abilities. Spend your life contributing to the happiness of others. Have a positive attitude and always do your very best in all your endeavors. You will surely then become happy and fulfilled. You all have such fortitude, such joy. You are my angels. I am fulfilled!" His family cherishes many happy memories of a father and grandfather with a wonderful sense of humour and a love of learning and of exploring new ideas and interests. Jim asked the family to express his sincere appreciation to their Private Care Attendant Nichole Verrall, Dr. Jim McFarland, Howe Sound Pharmacy, the Ambulance Workers, the Ambulatory Care and Emergency Staff at St. Marys Hospital, the Home Support Workers and Nurses of the Palliative Care Program for the excellent service they provide those whose wish it is to die at home, and to Veterans Affairs for their support of Canadian Veterans. Jim donated his remains to the Body Donation Program at The University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine. There will be a Celebration of Life held with Family and friends at the home of Jim Budd Jr. on Saturday, August 17, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sunshine Coast Community Service Memorial Garden or the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation/Palliative Programs, Seashell would be appreciated.
