MARIE KELLAS (nee CYMBALISTY) 1926 - 2013 After a brief illness, Marie passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. She is survived by her son Bill (Linda), granddaughter Alison, brother Steve Cymbalisty (Joan), sisters-in-law Margaret Kellas and Joan Cymbalisty and step daughter-in-law Dorothy Kellas as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Kellas, parents Emil and Anne Cymbalisty, sister Helen Safiniuk, sister-in-law Jean Kellas, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Archie and Shirley Kellas, stepsons Ken Kellas and John Kellas. Marie was born June 29, 1926 in Bowshiw, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1937 with her mother and sister to join her father who had immigrated earlier. The family settled and farmed in the Old Kildonan and West St. Paul areas. Mom was employed by the T. Eaton Co. where she met John whom she married in 1948. Their son Bill was born in 1950. Later she went to work in the Medical Records department of the Misericordia Hospital where she worked until her retirement. Mom was a charter member of Sphinx Temple No. 116 Daughters of the Nile, where she served as Queen in 1966 and was a member of Sphinx Temple Patrol and Khartum Ladies Auxiliary. Mom continued to remain active in Sphinx Temple up until the past few months. Mom was very proud of her granddaughter Alison giving support and encouragement in all her endeavours. Alison was her joy. Mom enjoyed attending Winnipeg Blue Bomber football games for over 50 years with her sister-in-law Margaret. The family wishes to thank all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, 6E Wing for their care, kindness and compassion. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. (viewing 30 minutes earlier) at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment to follow.
