Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • Tom and I were very close at school in Adelaide, especially in 1948, when we were both in 1A at Currie Street. I visited him at home often and learned to eat Guggelhupf made by Mrs. Aldor. Tom once showed me a pair of shoes belonging to his no-longer present father; I remember thinking that Tom's dad had big feet - -my only impression of him. We drifted apart in later school years and lost contact altogether after school. Tom was an exceptionally clever fellow. He was top of South Australia in the so-called Intermediate examination in 1950, when I was a hot competitor, but left me behind in later years. I am sorry to hear of his passing and offer my condolences to his family. I wish him the peace contained in his third name. - Posted by: Arthur Cropley (schoolfriend) on: Nov 17, 2013

  • I learnt of Tom's death by chance, when my son, David, came across some old correspondence of his to my parents. David googled the name and discovered Tom had recently died. Though it must be over 50 years since Tom and I were in contact, news of his death is a shock. Tom and I met through the Jewish Students' Association. As I was living in Melbourne, our friendship was conducted largely through letters. One vacation, I was invited to stay with him and his mother. Then he came over to stay with me. We subsequently lost touch due to a misunderstanding. Even though our friendship was so long ago, it is very vivid in my mind. I've found some photos of Tom which I would be happy to email you. My condolences to Tom's family. I am so pleased to hear he had a happy and fulfilling life. MARIETTA - Posted by: Dr Marietta Elliott-Kleerkoper (Teenage friend) on: Sep 05, 2013

  • Dr Aldor treated me briefly in the late 1970's and cured an intestinal condition. I never had anyone really listen to me like he did. My confidence in his treatment soared due to this. He was gentle, kind and absolutely unforgettable. - Posted by: Bill MacDiarmid (former patient) on: Jun 21, 2013

  • Helen, I was saddened by the news of Dr. Aldor's passing. He was one of the finest physician's that I had the pleasure of meeting during my s.w.career. Dr. Aldor well understood the social implications affecting health (especially probable abuse) A true detective, not giving up until he got to the bottom of the problem. Also humble enough to share his thoughts with the other disciplines. Would give Columbo a good run for the money. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: susan lang (co-worker) on: Jun 14, 2013

  • My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Aldor and family on the loss of this special man. I was a patient of Dr. Aldor for over 16 years. How he came into my life was more by chance then anything else and to this day I truly believe that it was meant to be. A brief history is before I met Dr. Aldor I had a medical condition that I could not get any answers for. After a few years of dealing with other doctors I finally succumbed to the idea that nothing was going to change until my condition was so bad that I would have to be rushed into emergency and then maybe, just maybe, I might find a doctor who would listen to my plight and do something to properly treat my condition. Well, this is what happened. One Saturday night in the autumn of 1996, I was rushed into the Grace hospital. On Sunday morning one doctor heard about my symptoms and subsequently said that he was going to release me. Before the release papers were drawn up, another doctor came by and heard my story. He said that he was going to get to the bottom of this issue. This second doctor was Dr. Aldor. After he did some basic tests, he found out that I had acute pancreatitis and subsequently put me under his care. He began treating me and finally there was a sign that I would begin returning to somewhat normal health again. While under his care, he found out that my pancreatitis was due to alcoholism. After this, he told me that if I continued living like I was, I would be gone within a year. After he told me this, I thought about this for some time and on Jan 01/97, was the day I said good riddance to the bottle and have been sober since. This I also accredit to Dr. Aldor's influence. So in the end, I accredit Dr. Aldor for saving my life. Dr. Aldor was more than a physician to me, I also consider him a very good friend who was never too busy to listen to his patients medical concerns and if he didn't have an answer, wouldn't hesitate to find an answer for his patients. Our community has not only lost a fine physician but a great humanitarian. However, for those that knew him, he showed there were still men out there who could put the gentle in gentleman. Dr. Aldor, you will always be missed by those that knew you but your memory will never die. Shalom my friend. - Posted by: Brian Emmons (Past patient) on: Jun 04, 2013
