Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMADELINE WUERCH (nee HUPKA) Suddenly but peacefully, Madeline Wuerch of Winnipeg, passed away with her family by her side on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 76 years. Madeline leaves behind her husband Donald of 54 years; sister Joyce Hupka; children, Dan Wuerch (Vicky Smith) and Cindy Wuerch (Clark Kenyon); plus her beloved granddaughter Ellee Wuerch. She was predeceased by her parents Lena and George Hupka, and brother David. On August 28, 1936 Madeline was born in Canora, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm in western Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg in the 1950s and went to work for James Richardson. She met Donald in Winnipeg and they married on May 9, 1959. They established their own mixed farming operation near Starbuck, Manitoba and soon after had two children, Danny and Cindy. Madeline loved life and was very inquisitive about the things around her. She really loved a good laugh and the silliness that life had to offer. She loved to read and travel. Madeline's favourite thing to do was take the kids at Christmas on a vacation when they were young. She was a real people person and she loved her job with UGG in Fannystelle where she could visit every day with her farming neighbours as they came to the elevator. On Friday, June 7, 2013 Madeline's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Children's Wish Foundation. Wojcik's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, 204 897 - 4665 wojciksfuneralchapel.com. I have had the pleasure of meeting Madeline (again) since reconnecting with her son Dan 2 years ago. I instantly felt welcomed into their family. I found her to be a witty, engaging, intelligent woman. Madeline had such love and pride of her family, it warmed your heart. I am saddened by Madeline's passing. My sympathies are with those she left behind. She had such a great way about her and I enjoyed our brief conversations very much. I met her only once but was struck by her loving nature and jovial personality. My grandmother always had a funny story to tell me about her latest conversation with Madge. I will miss those. Healing thoughts for you all at this sad time. - Posted by: Karri Davidson (second cousin ) on: Jun 02, 2013

Madeline and I have been enjoying a game of "What Is It" for years, a game where she would send me something strange in the mail and I would have to guess what it was, and I would do the same to her. I received one only days before she passed away and will probably never know what it is...she got the last laugh and you have to know she is enjoying that one. Thank you for all the laughter, I will miss you very much. I also send my deepest sympathy to Don, Dan and Cindy. - Posted by: Auntie Liz (Aunt in BC) on: Jun 02, 2013

Please accept our most sencere sympathies on your loss of such a wonderful person. Madeline was such a kind and loving person who always saw the good in people. Don would bring "A great big pot of soup!" for us guys in the powerhouse at HCC, which Madeline had made. There was nothing else like it. Later on, she would make pastries so delicious and yet, they were made from the most simple of ingredients, how she did it, we"ll never know. Rest well Madeline.
