DOREEN RUTH CANNING Doreen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in her 74th year, after a brief battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed and leaves behind her sisters Barbara Dickin, Margaret Hawke and Linda Canning, brothers Jim (Betti) Canning and George (Jane) Canning, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews (Jeff, Greg, Anita, Rick, Glenda, Donna, Colleen, Kyle, Paisley, Bob, Andrew, Lauren, Kayla and Owen). Doreen gave us a wealth of memories. She took a keen interest in family genealogy the last few years. She was famous for her jam-jam cookies, her carrot puddings every Christmas and her mile-high lemon pies - all which she so generously shared with family and friends at all gatherings. She worked for Manitoba Hydro, Domtar, Department of Tourism (Province of Manitoba) and was an enumerator for many elections. Special thanks to all the hospital staff and physicians of the St. Boniface Hospital, especially on 5B, for their dedicated and compassionate care, and to all the family members and friends who spent time with her at the hospital. A private family gathering will be held in remembrance of Doreen. As an expression of sympathy and remembrance, donations may be made to any branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. "Till we meet once again", dear Doreen, may you rest in peace.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was saddened to hear of Doreen's passing, we worked together in the Provincial government and she was a very friendly and considerate co-worker. We would met now and then while shopping at Polo Park or somewhere and have a nice chat. She had a good sense of humor and she will be missed. - Posted by: Elaine Weiss (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2013

  • So sorry to hear about Doreen. We were friends 30 plus years ago and enjoyed much fun together. I moved to Ontario a long time ago, but met with Doreen for lunch when in the city a few times. Was always great to see her. - Posted by: Nancy Schuman (friend) on: Jun 08, 2013

  • I'm sorry to hear of Doreen's passing - she was much too young! I worked with Doreen many years ago at Manitoba Hydro, and again with the provincial government in later years. After retirement, we ran into each other from time to time while shopping and always had a good chat. She was a genuinely nice person and I enjoyed knowing her. - Posted by: Rosemary Unrau (friend) on: Jun 08, 2013
