ARTHUR HALDANE DAVIS
Born: Jun 03, 1930
Date of Passing: Jun 03, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR HALDANE DAVIS August 25, 1930 - June 3, 2013 On the evening of June 3, 2013, after a six day bedside vigil, our dear Dad, Papa D, Uncle and Brother quietly left us. Born on the farm in the district of Glen Adelaide, SK during the Depression, Dad thrived in a loving home with his Mom, Dad, big brothers Bert and Ray, and Grandmother. He excelled in school and went on to become first a teacher, and then a pharmacist. He retired from pharmacy in 1993 after more than 30 years. Dad's sense of humour, his quick wit and his amazing memory, especially of sports statistics, will be fondly remembered, along with his ability to have a great conversation about absolutely anything. He will be very sadly missed by his remaining family: his daughter Laura Finlayson, son Gordon Davis, son-in-law Rob Finlayson, granddaughters Amelia and Ella Finlayson, granddog Peekie, brother Ray Davis, nieces Glennis Wittenberg, Shauna Selci, Glenda Smythe, Diane Debbo, and each of their families, and nephew Murray Davis. Dad will also be fondly remembered by his in-laws Patrick Finlayson, Janet Wilson, Emily Finlayson, Jackie Huot and Christina Smith. Dad was predeceased by his father Arthur David Davis, his mother Margaret Hay, and his oldest brother Bert Davis. Dad so wanted to continue his contribution to the medical community by bequeathing his body to the University of Manitoba, however this is not to be. Instead, per his second choice, cremation has taken place. Dad insisted that we "don't get together for a service in order to stand around and cry", and we will honour this request. We would like to thank the following people for helping to make the last few weeks of Dad's life more comfortable. Jimmy and Irwin of homecare, the Palliative Care team at St. Boniface Hospital, especially Gina. The entire staff of the Grace Hospice, for looking after not only Dad, but for also caring for our family with such genuine care and concern. You are all angels in disguise. In keeping with Dad's wishes flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, Dad has asked that you plant a tree in his memory, or, if you'd rather, a donation to the Grace Hospice would also be appreciated. When I quit this mortal shore And mosey round this earth no more Don't weep, don't sigh, Don't grieve, don't sob: I may have struck a better job. Don't go and buy a large bouquet For which you'll find it hard to pay. Don't stand around me looking blue; I may be better off than you! Rest Peacefully Daddy and enjoy the World Series. You certainly earned it.
