LEONA (ANNIE) WIEBE (VOTH)
Date of Passing: Jun 08, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONA (ANNIE) WIEBE (nee VOTH) On Saturday, June 8, 2013, surrounded by her family, our beloved Mother, Grandma, Sister, Daughter-in-Law, and Friend passed away at the age of 69 years. Leona will be greatly missed by her daughters and their families: Michele and Gordon Hodge (Grace, Tyler, Brad, Brennan, Sandra, Sarah); Sherry and Randall (Kira, Lucas, Lauren); her mother-in-law Anne Kostjuk; her sister Gloria (Herb) Dick; brother Ben (Linda) Voth, and many other relatives and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Roy Wiebe, her parents Peter H. and Agatha Voth (nee Klassen), her sister Kathy Schaab, and brother Henry Voth. Leona was born in Haskett, grew up in Winkler, and moved to Winnipeg with Roy where they were married in 1962. Leona worked at Scotiabank for over 35 years until her retirement, making many close friends there. Mom liked to curl in her younger years and enjoyed watching her husband and grandson curl competitively. In her retirement Mom took up walking, going at least five kilometers a day through rain, sleet, and snow. Mom was devoted to her grandchildren, playing with them, keeping up with their activities, and just hanging out. After Dad passed away, she kept up the tradition to have each grandkid over each year for their "birthday weekend" where they got to choose all of the food and activities for an entire weekend - a highlight of their year! Mom was a master baker. The family's best meal times together were always on "bun day". Mom was a devoted homemaker, canning, cooking and sewing everything from scratch when her girls were little. Her home was always a welcome place where fun times happened. The family would like to thank very, very much all of the people who took such good care of Mom these past several months: family and friends visiting, calling, and sending good wishes, the home care team, CancerCare staff and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Our Mom was a sweetheart and a dynamo with a quick sense of humour. We're really going to miss her love, support, and advice. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to The Dream Factory at 204-989-4010. A service to celebrate Leona's life will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. 204-586-8044

We're so sorry to hear of Leona's passing. We were just looking at old pictures recently of Roy and Leona and the gang from Victoria Curling Club, Ponemah Beach, and the Hackers ball team. There are too many stories to tell, but Leona's sense of humour will live on forever, as will that golden smile. RIP Leona, Roy is waiting. - Posted by: Hugh & Audry Letain (Old Friends) on: Jun 12, 2013

Leona and I reconnected at the Haskett school reunion and became friends again after many years of not seeing each other, but had an instant reconnect and shared some of our growing years of family and tragedies along the way. I will miss the funny e mails and comments Leona shared with me. We had just recently talked and she shared how short her journey was but she had a hope of a better future. May GOD give you Michelle, Sherry and family the happy times you shared You are in my prayer with love Kathy - Posted by: Kathy Fehr (Friend) on: Jun 10, 2013
