NORMAN CHARLES SPRATT October 29, 1924 - June 7, 2013 It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Norman aged 88, on June 7, 2013 at Neepawa General Hospital in Neepawa, Manitoba. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Pearl, their daughters Wendy and Sandra (Mark), as well as numerous extended family and friends. Norman was predeceased by his parents, William and Agnes, brothers Cecil, Harry, Carmen and sisters Alice and Marie. Born in 1924 in the Glencairn district of Manitoba, Norman then moved with his family to the Kelwood area in 1925. After graduating high school Norman attended an agricultural course specializing in Poultry in Winnipeg. Once completed he returned to the family farm and also performed poultry inspection tours during the fall and winter months. In 1956 on one of his weekends off, Norman met an attractive brunette, Pearl Francis Wagner, at a Friday night dance. This courtship culminated with a wedding on June 6, 1958. Norman and Pearl took over the family farm where Norman continued to indulge in his great love for feathered creatures; chickens, geese and turkeys along with a small herd of cattle for good measure. He was also very active in many Kelwood area events; curling, singing in the church choir and local organizations. He had a great sense of humour, loved to socialize, dance, read a good book, make things grow and was very proud of his daughters accomplishments over the years. He traveled to many parts of the world; far more then he thought he would, everywhere from Florida, Eastern and Western Canada, Thailand, Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, England, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia. He was disappointed however that he never did get to see a really big kangaroo or visit the true outback of Australia. Retirement to Neepawa occurred in 2004 where he continued to enjoy socializing over coffee, a sprinkle of travel and lots of reading and relaxation. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the staff of Neepawa General Hospital, CancerCare MB and Dr. Tariq for their generous care. Cremation has taken place. Private interment followed in Neepawa Cemetery. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Neepawa United Church, with Rita Friesen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Norman's passing. My dad, Ken was his first cousin and I would hear of him from Dad and Aunt Doris. My sincerest sympathies, Alison Spratt - Posted by: Alison Spratt (second cousin) on: Aug 17, 2013

  • I remember Norman very as I grew up with him. I worked one summer with Norman visiting various checken ranchers looking after their 8-10 week roosters turning them into capons. I don't think that is done anymore maybe a little inhumane. Joan met Norman years ago at Clear Lake (danceland),that was before any of us were married. Norman was a real gentleman at all times. It was always a pleasure for Joan and I to reminisce with Norman whenever we met. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Spratt family - Posted by: Paddy & Joan Gladden (Friends) on: Jun 16, 2013
