MICHAEL MILES On June 13, 2013 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Michael left this world to join the love of his life, Irene. She had recently passed away January 9, 2013. Michael was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his nephews, nieces and their children; sister-in-law Evelyn. Michael enjoyed life. He was a very happy man who loved the land. He engaged in both potato and grain farming. After his retirement, both he and Irene travelled the world. Michael was a Second World War veteran and the oldest resident born and residing in St. Andrew's. He was an active member in the Notre Dame Church and the Knights of Columbus. In February, he was the recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in honour of his dedication and commitment to the community. An avid sportsman, he played organized fastball when young. Always community minded, he spent a total of 22 years on both the St. Andrew's School Board and on the Board of the Lord Selkirk School Division. Michael loved his nieces and nephews and when they were growing up, he played baseball with them when possible. He will be fondly missed and remembered by his family, friends and neighbours. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB with Fr. Gary Killen officiating. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Spent many hours, days, working with Michael and Pete in the potato fields and grain fields of St Andrews. He was my neighbor when I was a teenager, Michael liked to chat and made work pleasurable. God bless you my friend. Gary - Posted by: gary zielinski (don't known) on: Aug 12, 2013

Rest in Peace Uncle Michael. I can remember fondly the days when my Dad (Jiggs), Uncle Peter, yourself, and myself worked in the fields together during harvest. Those were hard times, but also fun times. You will be missed, but now you go to re-unite with all of your brothers and sisters, and of course Aunt Irene in heaven. - Posted by: Ken Gusnowsky and Brenda (wilfe) (Nephew) on: Jun 17, 2013
