BRIAN JAMES MILLAR March 19, 1954 - June 13, 2013 Suddenly on June 13, 2013 at the age of 59. Brian is survived by his wife Janice, daughters Candice and Jessica, son-in-law Colin Ball and the light of his life, his little grandson Dylan. Brian also leaves behind his mother Jean Anson, brothers Ken (Rose) of Wetaskiwin, AB and Doug (Marcia) of Decatur IL, many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Brian was predeceased by his father Bill (William). Brian began his working career as a young man with the Metro Drugs store at the Ness and Sturgeon location. Merging into the Rexall Pharma Plus chain, Brian spent the last decade with the Geri-Aid Systems division. Medical leave allowed Brian to take up what he described as his "Best Job Ever", part-time childcare worker, taking on only one client, Dylan. Duties included picnic lunches, walks to the park, sandbox supervisor and storybook reading. In two and one half years of Dylan-sitting, Brian's knowledge of the film works of Bob the Builder, Thomas Train and the classics of Charles M. Schultz has become legend. While not recorded officially, it is believed he holds the record for most viewings of Toy Story, 1 and 2! Brian enjoyed 35 years of summers at Falcon Lake, teaching Candice and Jessica sand castle building, the right way to start a fire pit and which were the best spots to sit at the back beach! Brian embraced the home computer age and became the go-to-guy for help with crashes and bugs! His handyman skills were shared with family and friends and he never refused a request for help. He was thrilled to have passed on some of his skills to "son" Colin and grandson Dylan, who was always available with his tools to help grandpa! If it was broken, "grandpa can fix it!" We would like to thank all of those from the emergency team and Health Sciences Centre who assisted Brian. Your efforts were most appreciated. As per Brian's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering is planned. Flowers are respectfully declined. If desired, please make a donation to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) Brian we will miss you more than we can say. Your love will be with us always.

  • I knew Brian back in the days of Strathmillan Road. He lived 2 houses away from me and we did have some great times. Delivering the Free Press after school and just doing kid things. It's too bad we lost touch but not the memories buddy. - Posted by: Bill Brown (chuldhood friend) on: Jun 18, 2013

  • In my life, as he did for my career, Brian made me the person I am today. He saw something that most would not at an early start of my adulthood and took a chance. He helped mold my career, giving me important life tips along the way. I look at Brian as a mentor and a best friend. Any problems or issues, Brian was there with a friendly ear, wise advice and a funny ribbing to bring my ego down a few pegs to keep me grounded. Now with 2 kids of my own and an excellent career, I would not be here without him. I will miss you friend. - Posted by: Jasen Antonio (Friend and co-worker) on: Jun 15, 2013

  • I had originally worked with Brian at the Eaton's Place store and followed him to McIvor mall after he got transferred. I always looked up to Brian, as I thought he was a good manager and most of all, a great guy. I always enjoyed joining Brian for lunch or coffee breaks while at work. I thought of Brian as more of a friend than a boss. You will be missed Brian. - Posted by: Paul DeGagne (co-worker (Metro Drugs & PharmaPlus)) on: Jun 15, 2013
