Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of getting to know Ray when he moved from Winnipeg to Waterloo to take his new role at Manulife as a result of the merger with North American Life. I still remember first impressions of him being a serious professional guy when he arrived all decked out in a double breasted burgundy suit, but it wasn’t long until we got to know Ray as a more relaxed, funny, friendly, and hard-working member of the department. I only worked with Ray for a couple years, but long enough to get to know him and know that we shared a common interest in CFL football. For the many years that followed we traveled to many Argo and Tiger cat games. Sometimes it was just a boy’s trip, but other times I brought my whole family. My wife was not only impressed that this single friend of mine would tolerate a trip with his friend's screaming kids, but even more so that he voluntarily took responsibility to make sure we didn’t lose any of them. I think we ended up benefiting from his extensive uncle experience and my kids all enjoyed his soft spoken and fun nature. I take some pride in the limited success I had turning Ray into a partial Argo fan, but always knew his heart was really back in Winnipeg with the Bombers and of course with his family which came up often in conversation. My deepest sympathies to your family on your loss of a great brother, and uncle. I know he will be missed by many. - Posted by: Scott & Laurie Stobo (Friend) on: Jun 18, 2013

  • Our deepest sympathy to the Prokipchuk family, I have years of fond memories and adventures with Ray and brother Pat on Polson Bay. - Posted by: Tom Gudz & Family (Family Friend) on: Jun 18, 2013

  • My condolences to the entire Prokipchuk family on the passing of Ray. May loving memories sustain you in your time of sorrow. - Posted by: Katherine Ewatski-Foret (classmate) on: Jun 17, 2013

  • Ray was like a performer, a comedian of sorts. When gathered with his friends his routine was always the same. A little quiet, reserved and then……….. the curtains would open, the stage lights would come on and he would perform to the delight of all there. He seemed to take joy in making us smile and laugh. Ray could always find something funny to say or do something goofy to put a smile on our faces. Anyone who spent time with Ray would always comment on how nice of a guy he was. With Ray's passing our peer group will never be the same and at the same time we realize how blessed we are to have called him our friend. • I had the pleasure of working with Ray at North American Life during the early to mid-1990's. I always found Ray extremely knowledgable and patient and I really enjoyed working with him. I was also happy to work with someone who went to Sisler as well. Ray was usually very quiet and reserved at the office; however, one day he had me in tears as he did an Ace Ventura impression. My condolences to Ray's entire family. - Posted by: Ross Paton (Coworker) on: Jun 17, 2013

  • Norm, Doug and families, our deepest sympathies at this extremely sad time. Ray was an awesome individual; quiet and reserved but with a sense of humour that caught us off guard all the time. We will certainly miss his gentle nature and friendship. Truly one of the "Five Neat Guys." - Posted by: Jennifer & Glenn Shymko (Friends) on: Jun 16, 2013
