THOMAS JOHN KEOUGH 1925 - 2013 On Monday, June 10, 2013, Tom left us to be reunited with his beloved Teresa. He said good-bye to his three children, Tom (Marg), Cathy (Terry Bilyk) and Mary (Al Cairns) and to his grandchildren Robert, Kris, Michael, Matthew, Andrew, Kate, Elizabeth, Linsey and McKenzie. He also dearly loved his great-grandchildren, Emily, Finn, Alexa, Nolan, Ella, Leah, Mason, Paige and one pending. Tom grew up in St. James and after graduating from St. Paul's High School he served overseas for four years in England and Europe. Returning home, he started a successful and lengthy career at Eaton's. In 1970, he joined the House of Teak as a partner, but left in 1980 to fulfill a lifetime dream of opening a specialty women's shoe store on Pembina Highway. When Teresa was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Tom retired, and these became some of his finest years as he cared for her with devotion and love. He was very active with the Alzheimer's Society as a lecturer and volunteer and also with the St. Boniface Hospital Auxiliary Board and St. Ann's Parish. Tom was witty, gregarious and he loved to flirt and tease. He loved people and people loved him. Be in peace Dad. A private Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. We would like to thank the remarkable staff at Deer Lodge Centre. Donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, 10 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Wojcik's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, 204 897 - 4665 wojciksfuneralchapel.com.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I worked with Tom at the Alzheimer Society. Tom would come into my office with the greeting "There she is... the most beautiful girl in the office." We would happily exchange pleasantries (often about shoes) and a few moments later, I would hear him greet my colleague in the next office with the exact same line. With anyone else, that might get old - but Tom could pull it off. We all really liked him and his work as a speaker and board member made an important impact. - Posted by: Lorraine Decock (Worked with Tom at Alzheimer Society) on: Jul 10, 2013

  • I had not seen Mr. Keough in long time but I sure have some great memories of Mrs. Keough and him out at Bird Lake. Mr Keough was the kind of person you just loved being around. Friendly, kind hearted, giving, funny, and of course his infectious smile is how i will always remember him. God Bless. - Posted by: Dave Friesen (Friend and neighbor at Bird Lake Manitoba) on: Jul 03, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of getting to know your dad at Oakview where I looked after your Mom. Tom was so dedicated to her and he was a true inspiration to all of us. I maintained the friendship over the years and visited your Dad both at Kiwanis and Deer Lodge. He was so proud of all of you and your families. He was a good listener and helped me through many trials and tribulations of my own life. I will never forget your Dad. He really was one of a kind. My very deepest sympathy. I will miss him, our visits and his phone calls that always cheered me up. Betty Bender - Posted by: betty bender (I am a nurse who looked after Teresa at Oakview Place) on: Jun 18, 2013

  • I worked with Tom when he volunteered on the Speaker's Bureau with the Alzheimer Society. Tom was a delight to work with and an inspiration to all who heard him. He was a compassionate and charming man who touched many, I feel fortunate to have known him. - Posted by: Wendy Schettler (worked with Tom at the Alzheimer Society) on: Jun 17, 2013

  • Mr. Keough has always been very friendly and helpful with us when my husband and myself bought furniture (and we bought a lot, our house was all teak) at the house of teak. I am sure his family was very proud of him. My husband too passed away and I am in a retirement home, with some of my teak furniture of course.
