ELSIE MARTHA KERR (SINGBEIL) Mom passed away peacefully on June 17, 2013 at the age of 92. Elsie was predeceased by her husband James Pirrie Kerr, her grandson Steven, her brother Roy Singbeil and sisters Betty Webb and Edith Loeppky. She is survived by her six children Karen Hayden (John), Jim (Lynda), Ron (Pat), Dan (Karen), George (Heather), Jean Janzen (Eric), 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Elsie was born in Green Bay, Beausejour, Manitoba to the late Martha and William Singbeil. She married James on August 9, 1947 and built their family home in Weston where they raised six children. She resided at this home until 2009 when they moved to Seine River Retirement Community and later to Fred Douglas Lodge. She worked at TCA (during the war) Ellice Inn Catering Service, Canada Safeway meat department, Winnipeg Arena Coffee Shop and the T. Eaton Company. Elsie was an active member of Sparling United Church where she spent many hours involved with the United Church Women (UCW, Group D), and spent time volunteering for Fred Douglas Lodge. Mom and dad were members of the North Centennial Seniors group which had regular outings. She loved swimming and had the opportunity to help the little ones with their swimming lessons. She loved having the family over for Sunday dinners. These dinners became so big we would have to eat in two or three different rooms. She loved to bake especially with her grandchildren and they would all go home with cookies in hand. No one ever drove away without waving to NaNa and PaPa in the window. There were always family traditions to be had and she loved the family Christmas parties and her special birthday where we would light off enough fireworks to entertain the entire neighbourhood. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital who provided excellent care to Mom. A memorial service to celebrate Mom's life will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. If friends desire, donations may be made in Elsie's memory to Sparling United Church, 1490 Burrows Ave. or a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • My grandma is a wonderful person that I have cherished many happy memories with that I will not forget. Grandma's heart was always filled with a blessing of love and kindness towards others. Grandma always put a smile on my face and I always loved her company. I am so grateful to have grandma be an important part of my life as she has seen me grow up sharing laughter and happiness. It is tough to say good-bye to grandma too soon, but one day we will reunite again. Grandma has no more pain and she is in God's arms with grandpa now. Grandma you are my world. Miss you and Love you always and forever. Hugs and Kisses. You are in my thoughts, my prayers and my heart always. Rest peacefully! Love always, Michelle - Posted by: Michelle Janzen (grand daughter) on: Jun 20, 2013

  • Elsie was a friend to my mother and always talked with me at Sparling. The last time I saw Jim & Elsie was at the Cecil Rhodes anniversary in 2009. - Posted by: Ron Robson () on: Jun 20, 2013

  • The memories that a Mother leaves, are cherished forever.... In our minds we always knew, this time would come to pass. But knowing it and living it has come and gone so fast. Good-byes are often hard to say, they hurt so very much Though you're not gone, You still remain in the minds, hearts and lives you've touched. Aunt Elsie was a wonderful person. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Rhonda Kerr-White (Niece) on: Jun 20, 2013

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Your mother was a very special lady. I read this poem about a month ago. I hope this will help you in your grief. Your Mother, Your Angel You look back on memories you forgot you had, And at times you'll smile even though it hurts so bad. Your mother is a special woman and no one can take her place, You'll find a piece of mind when you remember her smiling face. Your mother is an angel now she flies high above the rest, and in your hearts always and forever she will be the best. She has earned her wings and it's time for her to fly, I know it hurts as no-one is ever ready to say good-bye. She knows you do not understand and that you cry at night, But as you finally drift off to sleep, let her memory hold you tight. She will be your guardian angel through the rest of your life. - Posted by: Debbie Roman () on: Jun 20, 2013

  • Mrs. Kerr and her late husband Mr. Kerr were two of the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life. They were both so easy going, always happy, smiling and eager to help if you needed it. Mrs.Kerr was always quick with a story of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of her entire family and righfully so!!! She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. I'm proud to have had the privilege of knowing her. - Posted by: Gerald McTavish (Extended family) on: Jun 20, 2013
