NELLY TRAMER (nee BORNSTEIN) 1917 - 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Nelly on June 20, 2013 at the Simkin Center. Nelly was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Egon Tramer in 1997. Nelly was born on August 19, 1917 in a small town in Poland. She was one of four children and the only one in her family to survive the holocaust (her brother, Eric, did survive but died shortly after). She married Egon on June 15, 1941. Nelly and Egon survived the Concentration Camps and after the war settled in Bielsko Biala, Poland where they began their life together, Egon was a physician and Nelly devoted herself to raising their two children, Richard and Elizabeth. In 1957 the family went from Poland to Vienna until they were able to emigrate to Winnipeg six months later. Upon arriving in Winnipeg, Egon had to retrain as a Physician and they had to rebuild their lives together. Throughout their life they faced many challenges and Nelly proved to be an extremely resilient, and strong woman. She had a shrewd business acumen and was able to acquire a number of properties and always managed them herself. Despite all the adversities, Nelly built a loving family, taking pleasure from her children, grandchildren and great-grand-children. Nelly leaves behind to mourn her passing her children, Richard (Anne z'l) Tramer and Elizabeth (Samuel) Baumel. Grandchildren, Shannon (David) Golding, Jason (Jonie) Tramer, Melanie (Daniel) Khabie, Rachel (Daniel) Baumel Mitzner, Eli (Nicole) Baumel, Jennifer (Adam) Kramer and Daniel Baumel. Great- grandchildren, Mara, Alexis, Chloe, Lily, David, Nathaniel, Capri, Diana, Brinkley and Aaron. Nelly also leaves behind, her cherished niece and great-nephews, Stella Eisenberg, and Dean and Mark, in Melbourne, Australia. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 230 Armstrong Avenue. The family gratefully acknowledges the care given by the staff at the Simkin Center, where Nelly lived the last few years of her life. Special thanks for the loving care given to her by her companions, Estrella Almazon, Raya Karelova and Remy Ballesteros. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
