MARTIN COHN It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Cohn who died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the age of 87. Marty will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Sondra, of 58 years; his daughter Susan; his son Lorne and daughter-in-law Miriam; his grandchildren Thomas, Michael, Matthew, Sydney, and Noah; his sister and brother-in-law Janice and Frank Kanovsky; his four nephews Howard Lawrence, Bob Cohn, David and Marshall Kanovsky, and extended family and friends. Marty was born in Winnipeg in 1925. He was a man of great generosity and integrity with a strong work ethic, an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit that led to a very successful business enterprise and farming operation. As a businessman, he was highly respected and his work was internationally renowned in the fur industry. That success made possible his philanthropic contributions to many charitable projects in Winnipeg and Israel. Family was of even greater importance to Marty. He was first and foremost a caring, devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with family. Marty also had many friends, drawing people to him with his friendly sense of humour and his strong, admirable character. Sincere thanks to Rabbi Green; George Tuma, a very special friend; Lynne Fineman; Maggie, Leena, Rowena, and Lea; the Palliative Care Team, especially Trish; and the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, phone 204-477-7525.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Cohn, Susan, Lorne and families. Mr. Cohn was one of my first employers and I workED for him for 10 years. • While I never met the man, someone with the same name sake must have been a great Mensche. I would like to have known more about him, who knows perhaps our families are related in more than a name sake. - Posted by: martin Cohn (none) on: Jun 26, 2013
