  • My apologies on my previous e-mail. I referred to the Normans'. Of course I meant Grace and Norman Edwards! I do hope that you had a wonderful celebration of Bette's life yesterday. Blessings, Anna Stewart - Posted by: Anna Kruse Stewart (friend) on: Jun 28, 2013

  • My many wonderful memories of Bette roll back to Sparling United Church where so many of us were able to establish our Christian roots as young women. Bette was my Explorer and CGIT leader, we sang in the choir together, she listened to my many questions about my faith and over the years she became a truly wonderful friend and mentor. I enjoyed many evenings sitting with her Mum, Mrs. Blackman and "Pop" , in the front veranda on Lincoln Avenue. I felt like family and was a guest many times at the Sims' and Normans' with Bette. Bette also enjoyed many meals at my folks home on Winnipeg Avenue. I was so happy for Bette when she met the love of her life, Fred. I too married and moved to Roblin, Manitoba where Neil and I still live on the family farm which is 110 years old. Bette and I exchanged Christmas cards until just this year. I send my deepest sympathy to her sister Winifred and to all her many nieces and nephews. May you rest in peace dear friend. With deepest sympathy and love, Anna - Posted by: Anna Kruse Stewart (a wonderful friend) on: Jun 27, 2013

  • I was 1 of 9 in a 60's singing group called 'A Good Thing' and Bette was our fun-loving leader/booking agent. She encouraged our love for all types of music from 'What a Wonderful World' to 'Incense Peppermint'. We had all come up through the ranks of CGIT and already had a lot of respect for Bette who facilitated the weekly meetings at Sparling United. As the years progressed and when we met up with Bette, she still referred to us as 'her girls' even though we are well past that stage. She was our mentor, teacher and friend and I will remember her always for the impact she had on my life. - Posted by: Donna Marsh nee Lindsay (friend) on: Jun 25, 2013

  • BETTY AS I CALLED HER, WAS A GREAT LADY. I WILL MISS HER SO MUCH. WE WOULD TALK ON THE PHONE ALMOST DAILY. SHE WOULD ALWAYS ASK ABOUT MY GRANDAUGHTERS AND BROTHER BILL. WE SHARED A SPECIAL BOND, BOTH BEING MIDDLE CHILDREN. SHE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH, LIKE ALWAYS HOLD YOUR HEAD UP HIGH AND WHEN GIVEN A COMPLIMENT, SAY THANK YOU, EVEN THOUGH YOU MIGHT NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF. WHEN I MARRIED BARNEY SHE GAVE THE TOAST TO THE BRIDE, I HAD ASKED HER AND SHE HAD SECRETLY HOPED I WOULD. SHE DID A GREAT JOB AND SHE WAS SO PROUD OF ME. ALWAYS TELLING ME DON'T WORRY YOU WILL GET EVERYTHING DONE (WHEN I SAID I HAD MANY THINGS TO DO AT ONCE). SHE IS NOW WITH HER WONDERFUL HUSBAND FRED. MY FAMILY AND I WILL MISS HER. REST IN PEACE BETTE. LOVE YOU. - Posted by: PATRICIA THOMPSON (FRIEND) on: Jun 24, 2013
