LILIAN JOYCE GERALDINE (GERRY) PURDY (nee COULTER) With deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Gerry Purdy on June 20, 2013. Gerry will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Carman, daughters Brenda (Flemming) Engbaek, Debbie (Steve) Parsons of Victoria, BC, Janice (Randy) Van Vliet, grandchildren Pam (Gregg) Parker, David (Lauren) Engbaek, Jeff (Amanda) Parsons, Evan Parsons, Tyler Van Vliet, great-grandchildren Erik and Sabrina Parker, sister Christina McIsaac, and extended family and friends. Gerry was born August 2, 1929 at Coulter, MB residing in Stonewall and Inwood during her youth before becoming a long-time resident of Winnipeg's North End. She was employed at Robinson, Little & Company where she made many lifelong friends. Gerry's interests included curling, bowling, golfing, needlework, sewing and baking. In her retirement years she enjoyed several cruises, traveling to Victoria to visit family, time at Hillside Beach and attending her grandchildren's activities and sports. As well Mom looked forward to lunch and shopping until you drop on Saturdays. She had a wonderful sense of humour and was very compassionate in taking care of Dad. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk, Megan Burfoot, the nurses at CancerCare, paramedics Heather and Chris, Dr. Fredrick Goeke and Shannon of Seven Oaks General Hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau Street N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We grew up one house away from the Purdy's in the North End for most of my childhood. I remember her cutting flowers in her yard and was always friendly to the neighborhood kids. Her daughter Debby babysat me and my two sisters. Looking at her picture in the obituary, I thought to myself, she hardly changed over the years. Condolences to her family. - Posted by: Karen Gander (nee Kowalski) (Past neighbor) on: Jun 26, 2013

  • We met Gerry through our daugher's relationship with her grandson Jeff Parsons and knew immediately what a warm, lovely woman she was. We admired her devotion and love that she maintained for her ailing husband, Carman. We can also attest to her sense of humour even during these trying times in her life. We will remember her fondly for her spirit and compassion and keep her in our prayers. - Posted by: Corinne and Phil Zizman (Acquainted through grandson Jeff Parsons) on: Jun 26, 2013
