CAROLINE LEVI (nee CAROLINE RACHEL ROSEN) "The journey is the thing" -Homer On Wednesday, June 19, 2013 Caroline (Candy) passed away peacefully after a long and arduous battle against cancer. Loved and revered by many throughout her incredibly diverse journey in life, her iron will, courage, resiliency and determination to live right to the very end surprised no one least of all her loved ones and those that knew her best. Candy was a nurturer by nature and derived her greatest sense of accomplishment by aiding and mentoring those closest to her heart. In every sense she was an inspiration to all with her unique wit and disarming charm. She was an absolutely one of a kind old soul who was oh so deeply loved and admired by many. Candy also achieved great personal success in the fashion world. Initially as a model, then up through the ranks of Nygard International, on to Sr. Vice President of Imports for Freed & Freed International and eventually as President and CEO of General Outerwear before retiring in her prime to support her husband's then fledgling technology startup. She leaves behind to grieve her many friends and loved ones including husband David Sokolow, brother Burke with Joanne Walker Rosen nephews Conor and Elijah, daughters Kim Olynyk (partner Jacques Dubois) and Robyn Miles as well as her son Jordan Miles, (wife Allison Swartz Miles) and of course her beloved Golden Retriever Barley. A memorial to celebrate Candy's life will be held August 27 at noon at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Winnipeg. "Alas and alack! I shall see you all in the next go 'round!!" she would often exalt. You gave us life and you taught us love. Your light showed us the way, enriched our lives and strengthened our own resolve. We owe you everything. Our hearts are with you forever mom, this was an authentic life indeed.

I read this and thought wow, this woman is lovely and felt sad that I didn’t get to meet her. David rented my apartment in March. This woman sounds like such a lovely person, again sad that I didn’t get to meet her and that she’s not there with David. - Posted by: Alana Delisle (Friend of husband) on: Aug 03, 2018

I simply can't believe that I failed to hear about Caroline's death in a more timely manner. We spent much time together with David and my wife, Andrea, some twenty to thirty years ago, and such is life that our paths diverged. Only today, I remembered "Alas and alack" and thought to Google Caroline's name, and this is what I find. So sad; so sad. - Posted by: Max Johnson (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2015

I had the pleasure of knowing Caroline through my business relationship with David and my friendship with her son, Jordan. I was fortunate to have shared some fun times, funny stories, some excellent meals and a very memorable cruise in Vancouver on their lovely boat. She had such a great sense of humour and was so easy to talk to. I wish I could have been part of her life before she got sick, but distance made that impossible. I always felt like someone important when I was with her and David. Kind wishes of comfort to the whole family and warm celebrations of Caroline's life. She was a special lady and will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Brian Munroe (Friend and Business Contact) on: Aug 22, 2013

My Wife Sandra, and I were deeply saddened to hear of the illness and passing of Caroline. Our sincere sympathy goes to David, Jordan, and her entire Family. I consider it an honour and privilege, to have known, worked with, and associated with Caroline, during my term as President of Symbol Canada, until my retirement in 2001. We had many good times on their boat, and in Mexico. She was truly a remarkable Lady and we will always remember the great times together. May you Rest in Peace, Caroline. - Posted by: Peter Nind (Business Associate and Friend) on: Jul 07, 2013

It was a huge shock to hear of Caroline's passing. I was one of the lucky ones who got to know her through her husband's company, and I always admired her spirit and grit. Kathy and I offer our heartfelt condolences to David, Jordan, and the rest of the family. You will always be remembered fondly, Caroline. - Posted by: Bill Matisz () on: Jul 04, 2013

Candy and I were close friends at age 14, liked to push her family car out of the garage on Ash St. After midnight we made the rounds: Pony Corral, Sals. house, Ravenscourt. Always in my thoughts especially in August when we "Leo Women" celebrated a birthday, often across the world. Loved a lot by Martha and condolences to Kim, Robyn, and Jordan. - Posted by: Martha Jane Muir-Menzies (Childhood friend) on: Jul 03, 2013

Things I learned from Caroline... great pie crust requires lard, a great Caesar salad requires homemade dressing made with raw egg, and good wine doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg. I am a better, more adventurous cook, and a smarter wine enthusiast because of her influence. I also learned that women don't need to settle for anything; they can be accomplished and valued and need not be limited to certain roles (in business, family, and life in general). We need not be shy or apologetic when pursuing what we think is right. I learned a lot from David, Caroline, and Jordan early in my adult life and will continue to benefit from having known them and learned from them; for that I am grateful. Caroline will no doubt leave a huge void, but my hope for all of you is that you find peace, comfort, and even smiles and laughter in all of the wonderful memories of her. - Posted by: Angie Robar (employee, dog sitter, student of life) on: Jul 02, 2013

I knew Caroline for a brief time both as an employee at Barcode systems as well as thru my friend Jordan. She had a keen sense of humour and always was able to brighten a room with her presence. - Posted by: Walter Cramp & Family (Caroline, my friend Jordan's mother) on: Jul 01, 2013
