Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN (ELAINE) BORGFJORD (nee PEMKOWSKI) August 4, 1912 - June 28, 2013 Peacefully with her sons at her side (like she wanted), with her mind intact (like she wanted), and still living on her own (like she wanted), Helen was called to be with the Lord after a brief illness. She always got her way. She was predeceased by her husband Ludvik (Louie) in 1990, four sisters and five brothers. She is survived by three sons, Peter (Linda), David (Paulette) and Frank (Bonnie). Also surviving is her pride and joy, her eight grandchildren: Robyn (Andrew), Graham, Erin (Benjamin), Peter, Krista (Robert), Holly (Tim), Gilbert (Jen) and Kim, and nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Kennedy, Isadora, Aliya, Daniel, Andrew, Caleigh, Payton and Harley as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended families and friends. Helen and Louie raised their three boys in Winnipeg Beach, moving to Winnipeg in 1965. She worked at Grannie's Kitchen for many years becoming famous for her homemade soups. Gramma loved family get-togethers and was famous for her perogies, cabbage rolls and fried chicken. She was always available for a walk to the park, a game of cards or touch football with the grandchildren - enjoying life to its fullest. She prided herself on her independence and was able to do her own cooking and cleaning until March 2013. A woman of deep faith, she said her prayers daily for her family and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Doctors George and Joshua, nurses and caregivers on 3 South at Grace Hospital for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Dr. W. Bishay and Dr. W. VanHorne (retired) for their care over her many years. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII (Assiniboia Christian Centre), 3390 Portage Ave. West, Winnipeg with Father Gerald Langevin officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Building Fund or charity of your choice. We will miss you and rest peacefully. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Peter, David, and Frankey. It's been years. I'm sorry for your loss. Your mother was an Iconic person. She did affect others in I think an unusually significant. Strong and yet very gentle. You boys were fortunate to have her in your lives for so long. You are blessed. Cliff Hrankowski - Posted by: Clifford S Hrankowski () on: Aug 17, 2013

Dear Peter, David, Frank and Families. I feel very blessed to have had the chance to visit Aunty Elaine during her final days. She had such a sharp mind, even in her very weak state she still very thoughtfully asked about my family. I admired her sense of family and caring. She was such a wonderful role model to have. May she be at peace. We will certainly miss her. Our deepest condolences. Velvet and Barry Tepleski - Posted by: Velvet Tepleski (She was my Great Aunt) on: Jul 08, 2013

Dear Peter, David, Frank and families, I regret not being present at my Aunt Elaine's funeral to share grieving with you. I console myself that I celebrated with her, her 100th birthday and, although she was frail, our bond was strong. Aunt Elaine had a huge influence on my life. She was kind, loving, preceptive, nurturing, and always fair minded. Her prayers strengthened my faith. She asked God to please hear her prayers and I believe they were answered. I shall always cherish her memory with utmost love. With heartfelt sympathy Peggy and family. - Posted by: Peggy and Adam Kibsey (Family) on: Jul 05, 2013

It was always a pleasure to be with Aunty Elaine, she was always so hospitable, generous, kind, caring, witty, and had such a good memory of events, names and occasions. At her 99 years, I asked her if she went to a doctor regularly for a complete physical. Her reply was, "oh no, I just go when I need to; besides, I have outlived all my doctors!" She will be missed immensely! Rest in peace, Aunty Elaine. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Reg and Donna Wyatt (Friend, but we knew her as Aunty Elaine!) on: Jul 04, 2013
