Condolences & Memories (24 entries)

  • I met Heather at a landscape quilt class in the spring. It was at this class I was truly inspired by her artistic ability with fiber and fabric. I left that day remembering her words, "you'll never look at fabric the same way again". I now look at what "I" can do with fabric because of her. She encouraged me to take many landscape pictures when I went on a recent holiday to New Brunswick, also where she grew up. We shared some Maritime stories and it was wonderful knowing her for the short time. She will be in my thoughts as I create my landscape pieces. My condolences to the family. I know Heather will always be with you in spirit. - Posted by: Anne Baetsen (Friend, quilt class student) on: Jul 23, 2013

  • I met Heather for the first time last summer - the first of what I had hoped would eventually be many encounters. Her vibrant spirit and explosive creativity was a force to be reckoned with. • Sad times!!. Heather was a brilliant artist. She was a mentor and support to so many even though in a league of her own when it came to quilting. She was generous with her help. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful person. Even though we only saw each other when I was visiting in Gimli, she welcomed all who came up to quilt or visit on the WAVE tour. She spoke so lovingly of her family. My heart goes out to all of them. - Posted by: Andrea Bell Stuart (Friend, fellow quilter) on: Jul 04, 2013

  • The world has a lost such a beautiful woman. I will treasure every quilting technique that I have been blessed to have received from her. She was so inspiring on so many levels and wasn't shy about sharing her "secrets"..... She encouraged her students to take the techniques and make them their own. Her bookmarks of appreciation will be treasured forever and her homemade cookies and beautiful smile will be missed. My condolences to Rick, Silas, and Emily during this very difficult time. She spoke of them often during her classes, and I enjoyed hearing her parental advice while she taught her latest quilting adventure! No one will ever know how many people she has impacted throughout her short life. She was a true gift..... - Posted by: Laura Bonneville (Student of her Gimli quilting retreat classes) on: Jul 04, 2013

  • I first met Heather and Rick in the summer of 1997. Heather was such a sweetheart - kind, funny, so talented with her crafts, a wonderful wife and mother. I also met her and Rick at my sister's house for a musical evening in the spring of 2000. She was just so easy to talk to and had such a good sense of humor. • This sad news is truly heartbreaking. I sold Heather's amazing handmade bags and accessories at my shop here in Winnipeg. I looked forward to every time she came by over the past few years as we always had such important and inspiring conversations.
