BLANCHE MILLER January 18, 1922 - June 29, 2013 In loving memory of Blanche Miller who passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Bessie and Sidney Miller. Blanche was born on the family farm near the Village of Nesbitt, Manitoba. Her early education was at Bertha School, completing Grades 9 and 10 by correspondence. She contracted polio in 1936. When she recovered she went to secretarial school at the Wheat City Business College in Brandon. She began work at the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company in 1942 and in 1945 she transferred to their Toronto office. She returned to Manitoba in 1952 and worked for a law firm in Brandon. It was through this position that she met the MP for the Brandon-Souris Federal Constituency, Mr. Walter Dinsdale. She began working for him in Ottawa in 1957 and, except for a break to continue her university education, worked for him until 1973. At that time she returned to Manitoba and joined the staff in the Department of History at the University of Manitoba. Over the years she enjoyed many travels in Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Europe, and Hawaii. This caring and friendly lady spent many happy hours socializing with her friends, attending plays and musical performances, working on genealogy, writing letters, and reading. She enjoyed her memberships in various organizations, especially Queen Mary Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was very generous with her time and money and supported many good causes for the betterment of her community. She volunteered as a tour guide at Manitoba's Government House as well as the Provincial Archives. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church (the corner of Wardlaw and Nassau) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Foundation or to any charity of your choice.
