EMILY K. PALMER (nee MILLER) Emily slipped away peacefully in her sleep at Tuxedo Villa on June 15, 2013. Emily's memory will be cherished by her daughter Dr. Karen Boyd (Dr. Bruce), son Donald; grandchildren Dr. Alison Bowles (Dr. Timothy), Brian (Chas Findlay), David (Lisa) and Katie (Mike De Groot); great-grandchildren Madison Emily and Ethan Bowles, and sister-in-law Shirley Smith (Paul). She was predeceased by her much-beloved husband of 62 years, Leslie; brothers Charlie Miller (Ann) and Fred Miller (Helen); brother-in-law Ronald Palmer (Mary), and sister-in-law Phyllis Braden (Bill). Emily was born on July 5, 1919 in Pipestone, Manitoba. Growing up on a farm in the "dirty thirties" gave her a life long appreciation of hard work, thrift and the value of family and extended family. Her tales of times shared with family, despite the hardships, were full of fun and laughter. "Every cloud had a silver lining" and the good in every person were what Emily saw. Emily moved to Winnipeg to train at Success Business College and start a new life chapter. She met Leslie and they were married on November 8, 1947. Karen and Don were raised in Fort Garry where Emily enjoyed her association with Fort Garry United Church and the U.C.W. Emily and Les spent many happy times with old friends from Pipestone and new friends from the West End where Les grew up. Above all, Emily was a family person. Her roles as daughter, cousin, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother defined her. Family took precedence over all. The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Emily's care givers at Tuxedo Villa. A private family "celebration of Emily's life" has taken place. If so desired, a donation to the Reh-Fit Centre Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.
