Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Dear Joan, I hope you'll get this message. These days I'm reading old letters of my parents and yours are with them. So I wondered how you are. Sorry for Heimo. I'd be happy to get some of your news. Love Dorothée - Posted by: HEGE Dorothée (Daughter of Hedwig and Willy HEGE FRANCE ) on: Apr 21, 2019

  • I'm sorry for your loss. You don't know me, but I was one of his many students at Westgate. He taught me German and History, but most importantly he taught me to do things well and to understand why I was doing them. He also taught me to make a difference in people's lives and to have fun while doing a good job. Thanks for sharing him with so many of us. May God grant you eventual peace as you live without him. - Posted by: Anne-Marie (former student at Westgate) on: Jul 18, 2013

  • Joan - so sorry to hear of your husband's passing, heartfelt sympathies. May you find peace & comfort in our Lord Jesus Christ during this difficult time. May He wrap His arms of love around you & your son. - Posted by: Betty Topnik (acquaintance from HSC) on: Jul 18, 2013

  • Of all my high school classes, the one I have the clearest recollection of was Mennonite History, and it wasn't because it was my favorite topic, but Mr. Bachmeyer made the class memorable. Even through his "growling" during homeroom time, the twinkle in his eyes meant we never doubted that he cared. The service today was lovely and I pray that God wraps His arms of love around you and your family as you venture forth into this "new normal". Mrs. Bachmeyer, my mother Erna Martens (your swim lesson classmate at the YMCA on Kimberly) also passes on her condolences. - Posted by: Rhonda (Martens) Epp (Former student, class of '84) on: Jul 17, 2013

  • My last interaction with Pastor Heimo was one that made us both very smiley. We were at his retirement service at the church and he had given a little good bye speech and talked a lot about all the things a pastor is asked to do at a church that has nothing to do with them. His biggest beef seemed to be being told about the lack of toilet paper in the washrooms. I couldn't help but laugh when my daughter and I were using the washroom during the lunch and there was no toilet paper. Now, I've been going to that church forever... and I changed the toilet paper after digging it out of the storage room. But he was so bugged by the whole asking him for toilet paper thing, that I had to go inform him that there was none in the ladies room. I was basically the last person in the reception line to talk to him. I marched up and very seriously pointed out the lack of TP. He looked at me. I looked at him. We both burst out laughing. I told him I'd already changed it, but thought he should know. He left the church chuckling that day. I believe that was the last time he was there. Paster Heimo, may you be at peace. And, know that you'll never be asked to change the TP in the ladies room in the Lord's House. - Posted by: Allison Erhardt (Parishner of St. Peter's) on: Jul 17, 2013

  • I will always remember Heimo's laughter with that twinkle in his eye. I am sure he is making people laugh in heaven right now. Know that we are praying for you and Trevor. We love you dearly. - Posted by: Connie (Brother-in-law) on: Jul 16, 2013

  • Joan and family, Terry and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Terry and Marlene Tottle (friends) on: Jul 13, 2013

  • I am very sorry to hear of Heimo Bachmeyer's death. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Bachmeyer and Trevor. May the Lord comfort you. Mr. Bachmeyer as my homeroom, German and Mennonite History teacher was feared, respected and above all loved. I have many fond memories and often thought of him over the years. My sister Diana and I attended one of his services at St. Peter's and were so glad to see him and that twinkle in his eye. He was truly a special person. - Posted by: Caroline (Kroeker) Brandt (former student Class of 1981 Westgate) on: Jul 13, 2013

  • Dear Joan and Trevor, My heart goes out to you as you mourn the passing of your husband and father. I have many fond memories of working with Heimo at Westgate. May God surround you with his love these days. - Posted by: Werner Wiens (Former teaching colleague) on: Jul 12, 2013

  • I'm very sorry to hear of Mr Bachmeyer's passing. He was a good man and teacher and a lasting memory was the way he would rouse snoozing students by smacking his pointer on the lectern and yelling in his special way. I'm glad to have known him; my condolences to your family. - Posted by: Jason Hiebert (Former Student) on: Jul 12, 2013

  • Pastor Heimo was a wonderful and caring person, friend, and boss :) I loved working for him as the secretary at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. I appreciated the friendship that Hal and I had formed with Heimo and Joan. Although Pastor Heimo will be sadly missed we will still have the wonderful memories. Joan, please feel free to call us anytime. - Posted by: Lois Behlke (Friend) on: Jul 11, 2013
