REGINALD JAMES SMITH July 20, 1935 - July 6, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend Reg Smith on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Although Reg tried to stay in touch, time and distance kept his family apart. He is predeceased by his parents: Arnold in 1977 and Eveline (Brown) in 1982, and his two sisters: Elaine Banks in 1997 and Marian A. Davidson just this past spring. But Reg was not alone and not without family - he had his many dear friends who considered him to be part of their family, and he was always welcomed in their homes. On July 20, 1935, Reg was born in Yorkton, SK, raised in Winnipeg, MB in St. James, and had many fond memories of Glenboro, MB. Reg was in the army as a young man, and was an orderly for the Health Sciences Centre. He drove a cab for Duffy's, and later drove for a few trucking companies including Penske, Maxim and most recently for Ryder. He loved to sing, and he sang in the Calvary Temple choir for many years, he especially loved singing for their Christmas production of Handel's Messiah. He brought his joy of music to many senior centres, hospitals, and weddings. He was also a very skilled leather craftsman, his wallets were so well made that many of his friends still have them to this day. Reg loved to tell jokes, he loved his coffee with friends and he loved to drive. His ideal vacation from truck driving would be hopping in his car and driving across the country! He was a very generous man, and he was always willing to help those in need. A big thank you to the nursing staff at Health Sciences Centre for the care they provided. A service will be held at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St., in the Buntain Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing held prior to the service at 12:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
