WILLIAM (DUNCAN) SMITH 1919 - 2013 On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 Duncan passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 94 years. Duncan was the beloved husband of Mildred (nee Longstaffe) for 67 years; devoted father of five children, Pam (Dennis Hientz) of Brandon, Gary (Carol Ross) of Winnipeg, Virginia of Victoria, BC and deceased Pat (Pam's twin) husband Bob Clarke of Gimli, MB and Grant (1983); seven grandchildren and spouses; 13 (plus) great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, and three deceased brothers-in-law, Ted, Gordon and Fred Longstaffe. Dunc grew up and was educated in East Kildonan and Wesley College. He was the only child of W. J. Smith and Isabel (nee McLean). He served overseas in the R.C.A.F. and returned on V. J. Day after nearly five years service in the British Isles and India. Duncan had a long and successful career in his own pulpwood business and retired in 1983. He enjoyed many years at Falcon Lake, Star Lake, extended winter holidays in Texas and several overseas trips to various locations. He leaves a legacy to be admired and followed by his children as well as many happy memories. We shall remember and honour our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at a family gathering. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in the family plot. We wish to thank Tower 6 at Deer Lodge Centre and the many dedicated staff who treated Duncan so well for his two years time with them. He will be a hard act to follow.
