STANLEY (BLAINE) SNELL Blaine was born July 16, 1950 to Astrid and Jack Snell. He grew up on a farm near Manson, MB, with his older sisters Barb, Jackie and Diane. Blaine went to school at Manson, McAuley, Elkhorn and Virden and attended universities of Brandon and Manitoba. He spent summers in Moosomin where he met several of his friends. Winnipeg was home during his adult years with a variety of careers, his most memorable with Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Blaine developed expertise in many of his life's passions, including: design, electronics, carpentry, cooking, wine making, and coffee - always of the highest quality. A camera was never far from reach. He had the ability to capture the dance of an ice crystal or expanse of a panoramic vista. He found pleasure and peace in music, actively listening to selections from his very extensive library. Blaine was a great reader and enjoyed books on philosophy, science fiction, and many other topics. His favourite times with his many friends involved cross-country skiing, cycling, hiking, and canoeing, keeping fit with the "squash guys", and creating amazing meals in the kitchen. Blaine's calm, gentle nature, intelligence, wit and artistic expression will be missed by Janet Lawson, her children Nicholas, Katie, and Kara; his son Stefan Bjorn (Jill) and his mother Sandy Stechisen; his closest friend Ian Anderson; sisters Barb Ellingson (Arnold), and Jackie Peckover (Dennis); many nieces, nephews and friends. Many thanks to the Palliative Care Team for their support, allowing Blaine to enjoy his last days in the comfort of his home. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will join in a celebration of Blaine's life at a future date. Our garden is brimming with flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My wife and I just had lunch in Calgary with her cousin Jean Gagnon and Kathy Lawson where we learned Blaine had passed away. He will be missed. He was always good for a music recommendation and I will remember him fondly when I listen to the many pieces of music he shared with us over the last 40 years. - Posted by: Dave and Rena Wallace (friend) on: May 01, 2014

  • I have been a friend of Blaine's for 35 years. I first met Blaine when we were both starting our Manitoba Pool Elevators careers in 1978. Because we both started at roughly the same time and had parallel positions we naturally became friendly at work. But then we discovered that although we hadn't known each other growing up, our families had known each other over several generations. That strange coincidence led to a friendship that has gone on for 35 years of shared interests in biking, cross-country skiing, camping, music, squash, and philosophical "discussions", often late at night at a Salisbury House at the corner of Jubilee and Pembina. Blaine, I will miss you. You have been one of my truly great friends over the years. - Posted by: Norm Cobb (friend) on: Jul 21, 2013
