Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD HAMERLING It's with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arnold (Nol) Hamerling, husband to Josephine and father to Ron and Dorothy (Yashuk), at the age of 78. Dad passed on June 26, 2013 in Victoria, BC. Arnold was born in Arnhem, Holland on March 12, 1935. He grew up in Barneveld where he met and eventually married Josephine (van Lunsen) in 1957. Shortly after being married, Arnold and Josie immigrated to Canada and had a son Ron in 1957. Upon arriving in Winnipeg, Dad found employment as a foundry worker with Bay Bronze and continued to work in the industry until he retired with Custom Aluminum / Castings 35 years later. As an active volunteer, Dad worked with the Boy Scouts / Cubs at Gordon King United Church for 15 years plus and he volunteered to work with adults with disabilities at the Elmwood-Kildonan YMCA for 20 plus years. Dad was a passionate billiards player specializing in European Billiards. He spent many hours playing and practicing each week with his good friend Eric Werkman. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of music. Dad had always enjoyed outdoor activities, camping at St. Malo or at Patricia Beach, and walking in the city or hiking the trails at Birds Hill Park. In 1993 Dad and Mom retired and moved to Vancouver Island, living first at Florence Lake and later moving into Victoria. Dad never tired of the natural beauty and spent much of his time walking to the waterfront watching the ships and wildlife in the harbour or strolling through Beacon Hill Park. A Celebration of Life was held in Victoria on July 4. Thank you to all our friends for all their support. We were always proud to call him Dad.
