Condolences & Memories (27 entries)

  • Jeff, as he told me to call him after I hadn't been a student of his for many years was one of the best people I have ever met in my entire life. I had the honor of being his student when I was 13-14 years old. I always had the greatest respect for Jeff and he was always there for me. He encouraged me to do better but did not make me feel bad for my shortfalls. Jeff allowed me to take him out in my first car when I got my license, he came to my 16th birthday, he came to my grad. He was one of the biggest role models in my life and has contributed greatly to the man I am today. He was very proud when I told him I was going into nursing and when I finished, I was going to take him out to lunch and tell him. I won't be able to do that now but I know wherever he is, he will be proud. John and AJ, your father loved you guys so much and always talked about you. I am the guy that gave you the bomber mini football that was signed. Your Dad was one of the greatest people I ever met, I am so very sorry for your loss and your Mom's. I send my prayers out to you guys. Sorry it took so long, I just found out today. Good bye Jeff my friend, my mentor, see you on the other side. -Andrew Chemin - Posted by: Andrew Chemin (former student and friend) on: Apr 16, 2014

  • I was saddened by the news of Jeff's passing. I grew up with him as my next door neighbor on Collegiate Street. I remember the whole family (5 children and 2 parents) living in a small three bedroom house, with one tiny bathroom off the living room and the bathtub down in the basement. He was like a big brother to me and my sister and brother, a very long time ago. My family (Herman, Deanna, Cheryl (Tom), Rodney and I send our deepest sympathy to Jeff's sons, wife and siblings. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Jamie-Lynn Henkel (Old neighbour and family friend) on: Jul 31, 2013

  • I worked with Jeff at Sisler High School for several years, a long time ago. I am so very saddened by his death. Jeff had so much to share with everybody he came in contact with. I remember his smile, his laugh, and his warm heart. And, he didn't like cold chicken! My condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Moira Honey (former colleague ) on: Jul 31, 2013

  • I respectfully send out my condolences to Jeff's beloved wife, Lisa, to his boys, as well as to all the other family member at his all too shocking passing. As a former graduate at WAEC with Jeff as my vice-principle, I can vouch that Jeff was so kind to the students under his watchful eye during my years there. Personally, he was so positive and so encouraging to me in his friendly way. Jeff was uplifting to be around and I enjoyed seeing him exude that positive energy. Even after I moved on from WAEC, whenever I would periodically encounter him, usually with one or both of his sons in tow, he'd always approach me with a genuinely warm smile. He would always ask me how my university studies was coming along and I was always pleased with the further encouragement he gave in return to keep on going strong after I filled him in. I always got the sense that Jeff had a fulfilled life that was lived in the present moment. May Jeff have auspicious luck and the well wishes of all the many people who cared for him and were guided by him in order to guide him along as he continues his journey beyond this world. I will miss him, like so many of his other students. We had the good fortune in our lives to encounter Jeff at these pivotal moments as we sought out the necessary knowledge and grades to work towards achieving our educational and professional goals. I'm really grateful for Jeff's deep commitment to the calling and duty to be a great educator. Thank you very much Jeff. - Posted by: Michael Julien (Winninep Adult Education Centre Alumnus (Class of 2008)) on: Jul 29, 2013

  • September 1973 two shy teenage boys met in 100 Math at Sturgeon Creek RRS. For three years these boys were inseparable participating in almost all school sports, “more or less” going to most classes, “hanging” in the library or cafeteria, overcoming the challenge of asking girls out (one did better than the other!), being at the school most days from 7 am ‘til 10 pm just doing “stuff,” beers at Snikeris’ every Friday afternoon and playing “caps,” street hockey – winter, spring, summer and fall. Jeff grew to be my best friend through high school. We had so much fun! The situations we fell into or the ones we planned have left memories that bring warmth and laughter some 30 years later! We harmed no one, though Jeff was my protector if need be, as he was for many others. We helped each other overcome the challenges life threw at us in the formative years to manhood. Following High School our lives headed in different paths and slowly we drifted apart, though our friendship never ebbed. Reading of his passing rekindled many faded memories and created regrets for time lost. I haven’t lost a friend, I have lost a Brother. Jeff – save me a spot by the library window! My thoughts go out to his family and to his many friends – Find peace in knowing Jeff now knows. - Posted by: Juri Snikeris (Friend) on: Jul 25, 2013

  • Mr. Deitz was my home room/ grade 7 Physical Education Teacher who also taught sex Ed which was hilarious at times to an adolescent mind as Mr. Deitz was the coolest, most liked teacher to ever have. If I remember correctly a lot of 13 year old girls had major crushes on him. He will be truly missed and taken from his family at too young of an age. My thoughts and prayers at this tough time go out to you all. - Posted by: Donna-Jean Johnston Cosyns (Former student) on: Jul 21, 2013
