Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJON DOUGLAS OBEE Peacefully and suddenly on June 18, 2013, Jon Douglas Obee died in Costa Mesa, CA, while visiting his daughter Anne. While there, he and wife Sue celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 3 and his 75th birthday and Father's Day on June 16. Doug was born June 16, 1938, in Toledo, OH, to Leon and Ruth Ginter Obee. He attended elementary and high school in Whitehouse, Ohio. Doug received a Bachelor of Science and Business Education Degree from Defiance College and did post-graduate studies at Ohio University. He spent several years teaching in the fields of business and social studies. His love of education and learning continued throughout his life. As a child, Doug spent summers on Lake of the Woods in Sioux Narrows, ON. He worked at the family business there, Obee's Freezer Service, which he managed and owned from 1967 through 1988. He treasured memories of his time and friends there, especially with The Lake of the Woods Chapel (Sioux Narrows United Church). He particularly enjoyed the Halloween parties he hosted before he "closed for the season" in the fall. This spring Doug was honoured for his 35 years as a tax associate with H & R Block. His clients and colleagues were very special to him. He wanted to give the clients the best service possible and was the recipient of many awards for high client retention. Doug loved his celebrations. The special times with Sue anniversary of when they met, were engaged, birthdays and anniversaries. Even the birthday of his rabbit Porcell was celebrated with a carrot cake long after the bunny was hopping over the rainbow bridge. He took the presence of a bunny in the yard as a good omen. Doug and daughter Anne shared their love of maps, geography, trivia and "did you know that". Doug was looking forward to a ride on Anne's Vespa. When visiting Anne, Doug enjoyed walking Beckham and meeting the neighbours. Doug loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe and throughout North America. The road trips he and Sue took were his favourites. The visits to mountain meadows were always a delight. Doug was predeceased by his parents, brothers Ron and Gary, by his father and mother-in-law Dwight and Etta Van Winkle. He is survived by the loves of his life, wife Sue and daughter Anne, sisters-in-law Cathie Obee and Margaret Obee, Jane Van Winkle (Tom Smith) brothers-in-law Tim Van Winkle (Kristin), Jim Van Winkle (Kat) and his beloved nephews and nieces. A member of Atlantic-Garden City United Church, Doug considered them as his family. Donations may be made to the Atlantic-Garden City United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of your choice. He was a donor to OneLegacy to benefit others. To remember Doug best he would want you to do those things that are important to you. Sue and Anne would like to thank all of the family, friends and others for their care, concern and prayers during this difficult time. A memorial service and celebration of Doug's life will be held Thursday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. at Atlantic-Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Ave. with The Rev. Mary Best officiating. Interment will be on September 29 in Ohio.

Doug was the best! I never pass the H. and R. Block office without thinking of him and remembering the years we worked together. He loved to talk taxes and to research and share information. He was a born teacher and shared his knowledge generously. Everyone who knew him was the richer for his friendship, and my heart goes out to Sue and Anne at this sad time. - Posted by: Joan McConachy (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2013
