Date of Passing: Jul 19, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE (THELMA) (SIS) SHELDON (nee AIRTH) Olive "Thelma" (Sis) Sheldon (nee Airth) of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 19, 2013 at the Grace Hospital. She was born in Beulah, Manitoba on December 29, 1920 to Alec and Gwendoline. She was the third of eight children (Viv, Elva, Roy, Ione, Ivan, Frances, Donna). Thelma received her education in Stonewall and was raised on the family farm. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Misericordia General Hospital in 1943 while making many lifelong friends. Her patients, family and friends all benefited from her passion for nursing and care of others throughout her life. In 1947, Thelma married Harry Sheldon and they had three sons (Rodger, Roy and Donald). Family was really important to her. Thelma's home was always open to others and she had a very active role in the lives of her grandchildren (Donald, Jacquie, Tommy, Patrick and Clark). Her great-grandkids (Olivia, Nova and River) also brought her tremendous joy. Her strength and determination were an inspiration to all who met her. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Sturgeon Creek United Church (207 Thompson Drive). In spite of her love of gardening, in lieu of flowers she would appreciate donations going to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba Inc. (105-500 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3X1 (204) 982-4842). Nana you were loved by many and will be missed by all.

Our family has lost a wonderful lady and Heaven has gained an angel like no other! As a member of the family who lived so far away as a child and adult, Sis would enfold you in her arms and you felt like you had never been away. I loved the house, the yard with the overwhelming flower beds and especially that sun room! Not to mention endless food she prepared, the Nanny buns, cookies, pies and preserves that you would find on the shelves in the basement already prepared for company. She was a truly amazing woman and I was so blessed to have her as my aunt. God bless, love Debbie - Posted by: Debbie Brink (Niece) on: Jul 30, 2013

Sis you will be greatly missed. The Airth family is one of love and laughter and we have all learned well from you all. I always remember your beautiful yard, many happy visits, food enough to feed an army, and sometimes it must have felt as if we were the size of an army. Always a place that felt like home. What an amazing lady! We always marvelled at the energy you had. Caring for your family, working in the garden, visiting your friends in need. Your student nurses learned so much from you and I remember your opinion of 12 hour shifts! I will miss you very much. - Posted by: Phyllis Gridley (neice) on: Jul 23, 2013

Good bye to a wonderul and inspirational Aunt! I loved to visit Aunt Sis and Uncle Harry when we visited from Ontario. I can instantly recall the laughter of us all being together in your home, the never ending food with "Nannie buns", and the stories over the numerous pots of tea! You were a "rock of strength, comfort and knowledge" to many. God Bless you Sis. Love from Dawn - Posted by: Dawn Broker (Niece) on: Jul 22, 2013
