Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER PETER WALLS Alexander Peter Walls died Friday, July 19, 2013 in Victoria BC, at home with his family a year after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour. Predeceased by his parents Webster and Florence; sister Bonnie; sister-in-law Lynne. He is survived by his wife Grace (Sieg); children Shayne, Samantha (Joe), Jeremy (Shannon); grandchildren Max, Ruby, Reese; brothers Robert (Jody), John (Bev), Gordon (Marilyn); sister Marilyn (Kevin); aunt Theresa; nieces and nephews Traci, Brenna, Noreen, Jonathan, Danielle, Scott, Sarah, Emma; sister-in-law Betty (Gerry); brother Gerry (Joy); nephews and nieces Victor, Stuart, Stacy, Lesley; grand nieces, nephews and cousins. Alex was born in Ottawa, September 06, 1948, and raised in Winnipeg and Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba. He and Grace were married in Whitemouth, MB in 1968. Al was a police officer with the Winnipeg Police from 1969 to 1996, and worked for Security Services at the BC Legislature after moving to Victoria in 1998 until he became ill in 2012. He enjoyed working and the friends he made over the years. Alex liked riding his motorcycle, camping, fishing, reading, playing crib and walking his dogs Rascal and Buddy. Most of all he liked spending time with his family and friends here and back in Manitoba. Despite his prognosis he had a great year, spending time at Lake Cowichan, Christmas at Craidellona, French Beach, a road trip with his brothers to Alaska, and sunny days at home on the deck with the kids and grandkids. We want to thank our families and friends for their visits, cards, e-mails and phone calls throughout his illness. Also thanks to his treatment team, Community Care, the Red Cross and Brian Winsby. Alex and I want to thank Shayne, Samantha (Joe and Max) Jeremy (Shannon, Ruby and Reese) for all their help especially this last week. We want to thank Alex for meeting this challenge with courage and optimism and accepting help with grace. Private Cremation. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com Cheers Al

I'm so sorry to hear (rather late) of Alex's passing. I understand your journey, it will be rather tough at times. We have inner strength that we didn't know we had but somehow we are able to tap into at times like this. I know that where Alex is (with Steve) it is Home! - A wonderful place! The toughest part of the journey is left for us. Know that his spirit is closer to you than you can imagine. Acknowledge him when you think of him, I know that they appreciate that. If ever you need a shoulder, mine is available. Take care! Jeanette - Posted by: Jeanette Shewchuk (widow of Steve Shewchuk) on: Aug 14, 2013

I recall the time Al and I were working a traffic car on North Main St. Ken Peters asked us to get a few breaches for the shift. I had 3 months on the job... Al asked me how long I had been on the job...I said "3 months".. he just had that smirk about him and probably thought..."just a baby"... We went to stop a car for speeding and we were parked on a laneway off Main St. I got so excited, I cut the laneway short and went into the ditch, floored it and out we came .... "3 months" is what Al said..... nice guy, a beautiful person and God only takes the best. Condolences to his family... RIP Al, you were the best. Hard to think that you are gone from this world... - Posted by: Jim Dzikowski (Co-worker) on: Jul 28, 2013

I am so sorry to hear about Alex passing away. Al and I went to Recruit Class together and we kept in touch over the years to catch up and have a few laughs. Although quiet by nature he was very mischievous and had witty comebacks. My sincere condolences to Grace and Alex's family. - Posted by: Frank Minaker (Friend) on: Jul 26, 2013

We were deeply saddened to hear of Alex's passing. He was a man of great strength and courage which was demonstrated by manner in which he chose to handle his illness. He presented himself as a quiet man but underneath he possessed a great sense of humour and mischievous nature. Gone too soon and too young. Our deepest sympathies to Grace, Shayne, Samantha, Jeremy & their families as well as to Alex's brothers & sister and their families. - Posted by: Ken & Irene Jensen (Friend & co-worker) on: Jul 24, 2013

So many stories, 36 years of memories. We'll continue on the other side, but for now there aren't enough words to express the loss of such a dear friend/confidant. Will always remember, miss, care and love you. Be at peace Al and we'll all see you again some day. - Posted by: Dale Martin (close friend) on: Jul 24, 2013

Saddened to hear of Alex's illness and passing. I worked with Alex in the 1980's and 1990's in the north end and Traffic Divison. He was a hard worker, and was very knowledgeable in various areas of law and police procedures. He always had a high level of street smarts and common sense. Alex liked to have fun at work and had a mischievous sense of humour. He also believed in 'esprit de corps'. In the traffic divison he took it upon himself to act as an unofficial social director. Alex would organize occasional breakfasts or movie outings when Tuesdays were our days off. His efforts did wonders for group morale and made life much more tolerable. He truly made a difference. My thoughts and deepest sympathies go to the Walls family. - Posted by: Don Gresson (co-worker/friend) on: Jul 24, 2013

It is with great sadness that we hear of Alex's passing. our memories of a good man will be with us always. We were just talking about how one minute a guy is in front of the net taking a swipe at greg, the next second he's eating glass with Alex telling him to cool it. Always a voice of reason - Posted by: victor + darlene martin (friends from metro mens broomball in wpg) on: Jul 23, 2013

Worked with Alex in District 3 while in the Winnipeg Police. He was a great guy and an excellent athlete. We played slow pitch together and Alex was a great team mate. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Bruce McDonald (Friend / Former Co-Worker) on: Jul 23, 2013

So sorry to hear of Alex's passing and his year long illness. Alex was my Cruiser partner back in the early 1970's and a more trusted partner one couldn't ask for. He was a great friend always ready to help with a project or pitch in when times were busy. My thoughts and sympathy to all the family. Rest in Peace Alex. - Posted by: Bob Patrick (Friend and co-worker) on: Jul 23, 2013
