MARY KATHLEEN KAARTINEN (LINDSAY) -
Date of Passing: Jul 20, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY KATHLEEN KAARTINEN (nee LINDSAY) 1928 - 2013 Peacefully with family at her side, our Mom of Eriksdale, MB passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital on July 20, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Leaving to love her forever are her children Alfred (Donna), Gloria (Dennis), Melvin (Lena), Holly (Jack), Robin (Gerry) and Rick (Linda). To cherish her memory are her grandchildren Darrell (Tena), Shelley (David), Karen (Allan), Monica (Don), Pam (Mike), Pam (Trent), Melanie (Pierre), Devin (Julie), Michelle (Jason), Marianne (Sean), Lisa (Ian), Jason (Leona), Steven, Cheryl, Lloyd and Chris (Mandy), as well as 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Alfred Lindsay and sister Anne Lingman. Mary was predeceased by her husband Fred, parents Percy and Emily Lindsay, infant son Rodney, sisters Alice and Grace, and grandson Matthew. Mom was born in the Eastland District of Eriksdale. She spent most of her life fishing and farming with Dad. Mom loved gardening, berry picking, knitting socks and mitts for all neighbourhood children and family members. One of Mom's most favourite hobby was making comforters for all the newborns. Mom enjoyed listening to Old Time music. If anyone wanted to play cards, she would love it. Of course, you had to watch her as she loved to cheat just to see if you were paying attention. Family coming home to visit was a special time for Mom, especially the grandkids. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Eriksdale Recreational Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory can be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Red River Place and the Selkirk General Hospital for the excellent care given to Mom during her stay. Our sincere sympathy to the family. No matter at what age we lose a Mom it still hurts like hell. If Mary cheated at cribbage, I guess I was not paying attention. We at the Eriksdale New Horizons surely enjoyed her company and she has been missed ever since she moved away. She is in good company now. - Posted by: Joyce & Doug Sewell (Friend) on: Jul 24, 2013
