WILLIAM ERNEST MARTIN
Born: Jun 04, 1927
Date of Passing: Jul 19, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ERNEST MARTIN Peacefully, and following a period of declining health, William (Bill) passed away on July 19, 2013. He is reunited with Josie, his wife and life companion of over 60 years who he dearly missed, along with the host of loved ones who have gone before him. Bill is fondly remembered by son Art (Ardelle), daughters Ninette (Will) and Maria; grandchildren David (Isabel), Karen (Sean), Kimberly (Paul), Tyler, Trevor, Brenlee, Holly and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Gabriella, Desneiges, Sophia and James as well as family and friends. Born on June 4, 1927 in Winnipeg, MB, he was proud of his St. Vital roots where his father, Arthur, served as Fire Chief for over 50 years and his sister Bernice represented Manitoba in national track and field competitions. He joined the Canadian National Railway in 1944 where he remained for 50 years of service. As part of his community commitment, he was proud to be a member of the Dubuc Social Club, for over 35 years, which raised funds for many worthy causes. A gentle soul, Dad was happiest when he could commune with nature in all aspects, especially bird watching. His store of books on every bird species imaginable and meticulous record of bird sightings was impressive. As an amateur artist, he spent hours drawing, sketching and painting and enjoyed sharing these with his family. Always quick with a funny story, he delighted in bringing light and happiness in our midst. We are grateful for his life and now, the new presence he has in ours. We extend a special note of appreciation to the 3rd Floor staff of the Poseidon Care Centre for their friendship and care of Dad over the past nine years. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, with Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment will occur at Green Acres Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Assiniboine Park Zoo a place very close to Dad's heart.
