ROY MAXWELL MCMILLAN 1930 - 2013 A memorial service will be held for Roy Maxwell McMillan at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Masonic Lodge in Portage la Prairie, MB with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Roy was born, raised and educated in Carberry, MB. He then worked for a short time for CP Rail and then for the Manitoba Telephone System for 41 years where he represented the workers on the Board of Directors for five years (1985 to 1990). Prior to his retirement in 1990 Roy was President of the Union of Electrical Workers for his local (435) for several years. Roy was man of great integrity with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for excellence. An active Mason since 1975, Roy rose to become Grand Master for the Province of Manitoba, 1996 to 1997. His many hobbies included amateur photography, travel and he was an avid reader. Roy was also a member of the Portage la Prairie Library and enjoyed distributing books to the shut-ins. Over the years his fascination with Canadian history led him to explore many historic sites in Manitoba with his friend John Jaman. In October 2010 Roy realized his long time dream of hand building a cedar strip canoe which now resides with his granddaughter Allana. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Hugh McMillan, his first wife Florence Bergeron and his brother Lawrence. Roy is survived by his wife Madeleine Skinner, and their children: Joanne (Gary), Barry (Maleyne), Terry (Dawn), Keith, David (Marie), Elizabeth and Jeffrey (Deb), 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Roy will be sadly missed by his close friend John Jaman, many good friends, neighbours and extended family members.
