RUDY DELENORE SIMARD Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, we regretfully announce the passing of our brother, husband, papa, uncle and friend. Rudy was born October 3, 1951, the fourth child of Alex and Mary Jane Simard and raised in Manigotogan where he attended Badthroat School until he and his classmates left to attend Frontier Collegiate in Cranberry Portage. This is where he met his high school sweetheart, Geri Fenner of Cormorant MB. He excelled in academics and sports, winning the Manitoba Lightweight Boxing Championship in 1967. He enjoyed playing fastball and hockey and played for the Manigotogan Knights in his younger years. As a young boy he loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed camping at Sandcheery Bay and Black Island on Lake Winnipeg with his family and friends and has left us with many fond memories of our adventures. Rudy had a long and varied working life - he worked in Community Development for many years, also serving as a councillor for Manigotogan Council as well as several terms as Mayor. In the late 1970s he and his business partner, Bill Meade established Simead Forest Products, a successful logging company supplying logs to the paper mill in Pine Falls. He was employed at Tembec Paper Mill in Pine Falls for several years as well as working as a Diamond Driller in Bisset. Always a hard worker, he spent many hours renovating his home as he was an avid carpenter in his spare time. He also enjoyed gardening and landscaping and he leaves behind a beautiful grove of spruce trees at his original home in Manigotogan. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Geri (Fenner) and their two sons Jeffery (Denise) and Jamie (Anita) along with his four grandchildren, Cherish, Jamie, Michael and Emily all of Pine Falls. He also leaves to mourn his mother, Mary Jane of Manigotogan, his mother-in-law Eleanor Fenner of The Pas. Also surviving are his brothers, Charles, Freeman, Leon, Regi and Laver, and his sisters Darlene, Allana, Sandra, Rhonda and Amanda. He also leaves behind a large extended family in The Pas, Cormorant and Cranberry Portage, his brother-in-law Alfred, sisters-in-law, Norma, Darlene, Vivian, Adrienne, Laurie, Shelly and Melvina of Hollow Water and Patsy of Winnipeg. Rudy was predeceased by his father Alex, brother Larry, and nephew Glen. Viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 2 at the Alex Wood Recreation Centre, Manigotogan. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 2 from the Recreation Centre in Manigotogan. Interment at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Manigotogan with luncheon to follow. Hold on to what is good, even if it is a handful of earth, hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree that stands by itself Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here Hold onto life even if it is easier letting go Hold onto my hand even when I have gone away from you. - Ojibway Prayer - Rest in Peace our beloved Rudy SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, Beausejour 268-3510 or MB Toll Free 1-877-776-2220 www.soberingfuneralchapel.com

I remember fondly the hours we spent swimming at Old Pete's Beach as young boys. We would spend all day there, never taking a lunch because we would eat the wild berries that grew around there. Rest IN Peace, Rudy - Posted by: Archie Phillips (Cousin) on: Aug 08, 2013
