GREGORY HALDOR SANDERSON June 22, 1951 July 25, 2013 Gregory Haldor Sanderson was born on June 22, 1951 in Langley, BC to Keith (Sandy) and Doreen Sanderson. Typical of being the son of RCMP parents, Greg lived in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and then to Manitoba (Winnipegosis) all before he was six years old. Early education started in Winnipegosis until the move to Dauphin, with graduation from the DCTI high school in Dauphin. Greg excelled scholastically. Greg earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba. Greg then worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for a year where he met and married Barb Vigar of Holland, MB. Greg soon realized that banking was not for him and that law was his real calling. Greg went back to school and received his law degree from the University of Manitoba. He and Barb then moved to Dauphin, where he articled with Legal Aid for a time until an opportunity came along to join the firm of Hawkins and Mackenzie, following which Greg became a partner in the firm, eventually becoming Hawkins and Sanderson Barristers and Solicitors. Greg and Barb decided to go their separate ways in this period. It was in Dauphin that Greg subsequently met Cheryl Einarson and soon they were married, creating an instant family for Greg with Stacy. In 1985 the family suddenly got a lot bigger and a lot noisier with the addition of twins, Kyle and Carly. Greg was extremely proud of his kids and their accomplishments whether it be scholastically, musically, artistically or, as importantly, just being good people. Greg found another level of love in his grandchildren that he had never known before or thought possible. Greg was an avid fisherman. Many of his best times were when he could watch his family and friends reap the benefits of his fishing knowledge. He was usually so busy making fishing easy and successful for us, he seldom got his own hook in the water. He just liked to see us have fun. His fishing trips to Kissassing Lake with "the boys" were his best fishing days and were a thing of legend. Greg loved music and was a talented musician. He was an excellent guitar player and singer, and darn good on a set of drums too. We will remember many nights at the cottage around the shore fire with Greg strumming away and us singing our lungs out. Greg was a very good lawyer which was recognized by his peers. He liked nothing better than to sink his teeth into a unique and complex case that would put logic and the law through its paces. Greg will be deeply missed by Cheryl, children Stacy (Dean), Kyle and Carly, grandchildren Kayden and Jaxon, brother Charlie (Jan) Ashley, Brodie, Chelsea. A celebration of Greg's life will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Riverside Evergreen Chapel in Dauphin, MB. Our family wishes to thank all the family and friends who have been so supportive during this trying time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkland Humane Society in memory of Greg. "Be at peace. Lay down your burden and feel the calmness wash over you. Just rest. We are all with you." Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services Dauphin, Manitoba 1-877-243-4459

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. I worked with him at his firm just after I graduated from law school. He was an excellent mentor and a genuine pleasure to work with during my time in Dauphin. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. - Posted by: Mollie McVey (Associate lawyer at Hawkins and Sanderson) on: Aug 21, 2013

  • Greg had been my elderly parents lawyer who prepared their wills. They had the utmost confidence in him as they knew he had their best interest at heart. My father was sick this last December with pneumonia at the Dauphin hospital. We thought we would lose him ( 86 ). I had met with Greg to ensure all was in order. He went above and beyond his duty as a lawyer and went to the hospital to see my dad. I cannot express how this made us feel. So sorry for your loss. Greg was a wonderful man who saw his clients as friends and family. Our condolences the Farand family. - Posted by: Joan clarkson (My parent. 'S lawyer) on: Aug 09, 2013
