NEIL STOBBE With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Neil Stobbe on July 25, 2013, at the age of 73. He is survived by his son Kevin (Elaine), daughter Marnie (Billy), and grandchildren Cassie, Richard, and Lily. Also left to mourn his passing are his brothers Don (Edna), Ed (Kathy), and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Helena, and his brother Art (Kay). Neil ('24') retired from Gardwine in 2005 after a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver. Neil enjoyed many summers at the cottage with his family in Sandy Hook. In winter he took up downhill skiing in his 40s, chauffeuring Kevin and friends most weekends to Frost Fire, even when it was -25 degrees! There was not a challenge or adventure Neil would back away from. His travels took him to Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and many places throughout the United States. After retirement he moved out to Ste. Anne, MB and shared the 30 acres of "Country Life" with Marnie. Even three months ago, when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he would still be up at 5:00 a.m., tinkering around the yard and making sure all the animals were looked after. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 6 Dickens Drive on Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

  • I worked with Neil for 5 years at Gardewine North and Neil was a guy you could ask to give a helping hand. I can honestly say that I have only been to 1 retirement dinner but I was at Neil's. Roger Lambert and myself went and had a beer with Neil and we had both been gone from Gardewine for a few yrs but Neil's retirement was one that we had to go to. I am sorry this is so late after Neil's passing but I guess better late than never. My condolences to Neil's family he was a great man I will miss his big smile. - Posted by: Pat Moore (Freind) on: Aug 19, 2013

  • Neil was truly one of a kind. Such a kind gentle soul and such a young at heart fiery spirit. I will always remember the many trips to the Sandy Hook Cottage. How he chauffeured Marnie and I around as teenagers, never ever complaining about having to take us or pick us up from here, there and everywhere at a moment's notice. Neil would always come by and visit with our family at Christmas. Something that myself and parents really looked forward to every year. He was more than my friend's dad, he was like a friend. He was always one of the gang. He could keep up with the best of us. And quite honestly had better dance moves than most of us. Neil I hope you found my mom Sandy in heaven and are sitting on a beach somewhere with her enjoying a cold one talking about the good times. There have been so many. You were a very special person and an amazing father. Marnie and Kevin were lucky to have you. May you rest in peace. - Posted by: Deb Sorensen (Marnie's lifelong friend) on: Aug 03, 2013
