LORRAINE MACDONALD
Date of Passing: Aug 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORRAINE MACDONALD With aching hearts and deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, Lorraine MacDonald on August 4, 2013. She will forever be lovingly remembered by her children, Laurie (Rob), Brian (Kathy) and Rob (Cheryl), and the grandchildren she treasured and cherished with all of her heart, Chantal, Kristen, Brandon and Samantha. She is survived by her sisters, Eleanor Procak (Mike) and Cheryl Schwab. She will also be sadly missed by numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews throughout Canada. We are especially grateful to Helen McFarlane who was a caring, kind and thoughtful friend for so many years, and to her wonderful neighbours, Bev and Dan, whose company and support she so much enjoyed. Lorraine was a vibrant, feisty and active woman throughout her life. Her children and their families meant everything to her, and she made a point of celebrating any and all special occasions with family dinners, parties and generous, thoughtful gifts or cards from the smallest to the most important life events...she knew how to celebrate! She will be dearly missed by her bridge club friends, Doreen, Irene, Jean and Eleanor, with whom she spent over 60 years chatting, playing bridge, socializing and sharing their friendship. She loved you all so very much! Mom grew up in Norwood and spent her summers at Winnipeg Beach, where she was a lifeguard in her teens. She so much enjoyed her time at the lake, where she developed her lifelong love of sea, sand and sun. She loved to travel and visit new "sun" vacations, from the California and Oregon coasts, to the beaches of Gulfport and New Orleans, to the sunny shores of Florida - she covered them all. She also cruised the Caribbean, and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. She loved a few casino trips as well, and enjoyed meeting many friends and acquaintances through these outings. She was active her whole life, and spent countless years supporting the canteen and movie nights at Sir John Franklin Community Club. She also spent endless hours watching her sons and daughter play sports or perform in some event, and later thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren as they engaged in sporting and arts activities. She participated in sports herself, and was an avid curler at both the Fort Garry and Charleswood Curling Clubs, later watching every bonspiel and event she could attend or see on television. She was also a huge Blue Jays fan and loved watching all their games, even attending one in Toronto one year, which was a special memory for her. Mom loved reading (especially her Stephen King collection), doing crosswords, decorating (and redecorating), shopping and travelling. Her "treat cupboard" was the delight of her grandchildren. Thank you to the nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. Words cannot describe how much we will miss you Mom. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of Lorraine's life at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Dear MacDonald Family, My condolences to your family. I know my message is very late but I only see your Mom once a year on Christmas eve. I was so sad when I went to your Mom's and she did not live there anymore. I will miss her very much as your Mom was one of my favorite dropoffs. She loved you all and loved being loved. I was very lucky to have met her by accident. Your Mom will always have a special spot in my heart. God bless !! XOXO - Posted by: Annette Andrews (Secret Santa) on: Dec 29, 2013

Aunt Lorraine was always a favorite of mine...always so full of life and laughter. I remember our visits where she would lean towards me with a sparkle in her eyes eager to hear what I had been up to. Always so engaging and interested. So much zest for life and love of adventure. My heart goes out to my three cousins and families and to Helen. Only time will shift the grief to a less painful place. - Posted by: Shelly MacDonald (Niece) on: Aug 09, 2013

Lorraine MacDonald knew me for 53 years and sometimes I felt that I did half my growing up in her kitchen or in her basement with Laurie. She put up with our shenanigans and was always supportive. She fed me, took me on road trips, and shared the family home with me as if I was family. I will miss her warmth and smile. Rest in peace. Aunt Lorraine was a feisty woman and I have many memories of her in my childhood days. She had a great laugh, quick wit and a beautiful smile. Living in Vancouver and now Edmonton meant that I only saw her a few times through all these later years, but each visit I felt enveloped in her love and kindness. I will always remember the gentle and beautiful things she said to me that always left me wishing that we lived closer. As 'one of the cousins', my heart breaks for you all as we know what you are all going through with the loss of your Mom and Gramma. My heart also goes out to Helen, for her loss of a true friend and companion will be so very difficult. I will light a candle on Friday to help span the distance and hope that you feel my heart with you all. Aunt Lorraine was very much loved and her spark for life will live on in our hearts and memories. - Posted by: Sheila MacDonald (niece) on: Aug 07, 2013

Dearst cousins - I am so sad to hear of Aunt Lorraine's passing - I have distinct memories of her over the years. My first is her at Winnipeg Beach with her brown shiny short wavy hair, and looking perfect in her shorts and tee - my second is of her swishing about all dolled up, when I was there to babysit for you all at the age of 11, no less! My third is of her sweetness that she extended to our daughter Hayley, at the age of 2 and a half, while staying with her on our trip across Canada, after leaving South Africa. My regret is that she missed our cousin reunion last summer. Howard, I and the family want to extend our deepest sympathies and wish you all long life.
