Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD BRUCE YOUNG 15 November 1929 - 8 August 2013 Peacefully, with family by his side, Edward Bruce Young aged 83 years of Winnipeg Manitoba passed from this life at St. Boniface Hospital after a brief journey with cancer. Bruce was predeceased by wife of 45 years Donna (nee Course), his parents Daniel and Doris (nee Erskine) and brother John. He is survived by his sons Evan (Stacy), Stuart and Derek, grandchildren Kieran and Payton and sister Marilyn and cousins extending across Canada. Bruce was born in Winnipeg and resided here all his life. He attended school in Winnipeg, active in sports and camping with the YMCA and later earning his wings as a pilot. Bruce married Donna on 12 June 1965 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Winnipeg and took up residence in St. Boniface (later part of Winnipeg) where they raised their sons. A voracious reader, he read thrillers, military and mainstream science fiction and a great variety of other books. He built air and ship models both plastic and wooden and loved caring for his garden, growing great quantities of tomatoes and beans and sharing them with any who needed. He was an avid photographer, shooting many pictures of family and Scout gatherings. He followed the Blue Bombers for many years and enjoyed cards with friends. Early employment included summers with the Geological survey of Canada, Anglican Island and others but his primary Career was with CBC in Winnipeg. His work there included sound and video recording, video camera and a long service in the film lab. He remained active with the CBC Retirees association with Donna after his retirement. Bruce volunteered for over 30 years with Scouts Canada, as Akela, trainer, various Group (121st St. Bartholomew and 1st Southdale), District and Area positions, special events and camps. Donna and Bruce enjoyed long friendships with several other scout parents. After Donna's passing, Bruce moved to Concordia Village where he enjoyed the company of new friends, was on the resident board, assisted with the Library, taking up golf and other activities. The family wish to extend their thanks to the many health professionals and volunteers at St. Boniface Hospital ward 5E who provided compassionate and gentle care for our father in his brief stay. Celebration of Bruce's life will be held on 22 September 2013, 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church Winnipeg, 830 North Drive, with interment of Ashes in St. Vital Cemetery. The family invites his friends and family to luncheon in the Church Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Scouts Canada Manitoba Council, St. Bartholomew Anglican Church or the charity of your choice. I greatly admired Bruce (and Donna) for their passion for Scouting. Having dedicated much of their lives to the development of youth in Saint Boniface, I was always impressed by their dedication.
