KENNETH J. SMITH On Sunday, August 4, 2013 Ken passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87. Left to cherish Ken's memory are his devoted wife of 62 years, Sophie; son Wayne (Lori); daughter Elaine (Rod); grandchildren Ken Smith and Hannah Crook; his sister Norma (Laurence), and nephew Keith Gans (Lucy). He was predeceased by his mother Mary and father Jack. As a young man Ken served overseas with the armed services. He had 38 years of service with C.P.R. retiring as a conductor in 1985. While working at C.P.R. Ken was active in the union and served as Chair of the Manitoba Legislative Board, United Transportation Union. Ken was a life member of the Arlington Sports Club where he spent many hours fishing, upkeeping the lodge and holding various positions on the executive board including president. Ken liked to have fun and tell tales with family and friends. He believed in hard work and the importance of education. Ken believed in helping others, neighbours, fellow workers, friends and family. He will be greatly missed. In keeping with Ken's wishes no formal service will be held. Cremation has taken place.
