Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE MCDONALD March 31, 1927 - August 4, 2013 August 4, 2013 Irene McDonald left this world to join her loved ones who went before her. Irene leaves to mourn her passing her brothers Nelson of Cochrane, AB and Ronald (Gladys) of Vivian, MB, sisters-in-law Jeannette McDonald and Florence McDonald; numerous, beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Minnie McDonald; brothers George, Frank, Alfred and Robert. Irene was raised on the farm in Vivian, the only girl of seven siblings. Upon finishing her schooling at Oak Crossing Irene moved to Winnipeg and worked in the bakery at The Bay. She then took a barbering course and all her brothers and nephews can attest to her barber skills as she cut their hair for many years. Irene's final job was as a cutter / spreader at Knit-Rite. In the 1980s a court case was filed on behalf of Irene demanding equal pay for a woman doing the same work as a man. The case was won, setting a new standard for pay for all women. The family is very thankful for the kindness and caring shown Irene by all the staff at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour. As per Irene's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. Donations to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 would be appreciated.
