SHARON LYNN FRASER (nee LAIDLER) November 18, 1938 - July 19, 2013 Sharon passed away peacefully at the Rock Lake District Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Sharon is survived by husband Barry; sons: Edward (Bud) of Windsor, Michael of Winnipeg, Jeffrey of Regina, daughter Patty of Winnipeg; grandchildren: Alysha, Joshua, Robert, Aaron, Cassandra, McLean and Holly, and great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Andrew. Sharon also leaves to mourn her sister Ardyth of Port Hope, ON. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Eileen, and brother Bud. Sharon and Barry married in 1955 and had 58 wonderful years together, working and living in Brandon, Winnipeg, Milton, ON, and Montreal, retiring in 1989. Along the way she achieved her high school diploma and enrolled at Red River Community College in the accelerated nursing program. She graduated in 1981 with a LPN designation. Sharon was actively involved as a volunteer to the elderly and infirm in Winnipeg and Pilot Mound. She served on the Board of Directors for Rock Lake Hospital, Pilot Mound Museum and chairing the RM of Louise Community Services. In 2008 Sharon decided she wanted to move to Pilot Mound to be close to her mother's friends and relatives. She always commented that every other month another distant relation of the McLean and Cavers clan would surface. She was loved and respected in the community. The family acknowledges the following for their care, concerns and helpfulness during Sharon's illness: CancerCare Manitoba; Dr. Woelk, navigators, Allison and Debbie; Dr. Khouri and Dr. Sodi and the entire nursing staff at Rock Lake District Hospital; Pam King and volunteers; Elizabeth, Darlene, and Annette. A special thank you to her childhood friend Gerri Bain of Richmond, BC and dear friend of 50 odd years Edie Shuster of Winnipeg. A memorial service was held on July 24, 2013 at the Pilot Mound United Church with Rev. Chuck Ross officiating and Roy McLaren urn bearer. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date, as Sharon awaits Barry. The family acknowledges the many cards of condolence and flowers received, with the sincerest gratitude. Wheatland Funeral Service (204) 825-2848 - www.wheatlandfs.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My mom, Darlene Clarke went to nursing school with Sharon and I remember meeting her when I was younger. She was always so sweet to me. I am so sorry for your loss..... - Posted by: Kirsty Randell (Clarke) () on: Aug 20, 2013

  • My family and I have very fond memories of the summers spent at the lake. My birthday being in Sept. we always had parties on the long weekend. We had fun. Swimming, water skiing. The camp fires. Sharon would always have a puffed wheat cake on hand. Eileen and her whistle. When she blew it you'd better move. And Ed on the back deck with his fly swatter listening to the ball game. Their hand painted car. Rainy days spent playing 31 or hearts for pennies. Walking up to Pinewood for penny candy and to play pin ball. Too many memories to list. Tell Sharon to walk slowly. We will all catch up to her some day and sit around the fire and eat puffed wheat cake. Sandi and the Williamson's - Posted by: Sandi Robbins( Williamson) (Dorothy Lake Nieghbours) on: Aug 10, 2013
