MARION DAVIES It is with sadness that, after a brief illness, we announce the passing of Marion Davies at the age of 89 years on Thursday, August 15, 2013 with her entire family at her side. Marion was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1990. She is survived by her three children Linda, Lori (Todd) and Lyle (Lucille) and her five grandchildren Jordan, Andrea, Stephanie, Jared and Marissa. Marion is also survived by her brother Gilbert in Dryden, ON and her sister-in-law Hilda in Minnedosa, MB. Marion was born on September 27, 1923 in Elston, SK. Her career as a restaurant manager in Thunder Bay at the Lorna Doone ended when she met and married Lawrence in 1954. She and Lawrence raised their children through postings with The Royal Bank in Churchill, Winnipeg, Birtle and then back to Winnipeg. While raising her children Marion ran a kindergarten in her home for a number of years. During retirement Marion and Lawrence spent their winters enjoying golf and playing bridge in Brownsville, TX. She continued to play bridge until just before her passing. Over the years Marion had many hobbies including gardening, knitting, sewing and taking on numerous home improvement projects. She was a very capable woman and could do anything she set her mind to. Marion enjoyed all family get togethers, but her greatest joy in life were her five grand-children. She loved spending time with them and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. She was an important part of their lives and never hesitated to give advice when she thought it was necessary. Marion was fiercely independent and she continued to make all decisions about her life until the day of her passing. At her request there will not be a formal service. A private family service will take place at a later date. "Hot chocolate, 3 timbits"
