Born: Jul 09, 1917
Date of Passing: Aug 12, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN EVANS It is with profound sadness we had to say goodbye to a great lady, our "grand aunt" Lil Evans. Lil was born in Winnipeg, July 9, 1917 and left us August 12, 2013. That's a few years to grace this earth. Lil lived her life to the fullest, working at the Canadian Wheat Board, travelling the world following the then Air Canada Silver Broom, numerous cruises, and just plain holidays. In her early years she was known to go camping and picking berries where there were only dirt roads. Lil loved to dance, and was involved in round dancing in the Fort Rouge area, whenever we were out and there was music, you could see Lil doing her little shuffle in time to the music. There was a time after retirement when Lil could be found cycling at City Park. She was a season ticket holder to the Winnipeg Symphony and Royal Winnipeg Ballet until health issues curtailed those activities that she loved. You never saw Lil outside without her lovely hat and white gloves. Forever a lady. She enjoyed living at the Waverley Retirement Community, signing up for every outing they offered, and made many good friends along the way. One of her favourite places was Gimli, Manitoba where her brother Robert lived. She had her brother, garden and chickens to fuss over while visiting every Sunday. In Lil's declining years she was a resident of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home, where the staff had fun trying to keep up with her, she loved walking and did her rounds of the home. We want to thank the staff there for their constant care and dignity with which she was treated; special thanks to Lynda for being there whenever I called. Lil was predeceased by her mother Sarah (1930), father Robert (1971), sister Irene (1953), brothers Robert (1997) and Harold (2005). Remembering her is her nephew Ralph (Trucia) Howard and their family, and Elizabeth (Jim) Golden and their family, along with numerous cousins. Also, a thank you to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion her last days. Alzheimers took over Lil's wonderful mind, but she always had a sense of humour. She is now where she wanted to be with her siblings who she missed. They now dance together again. Flowers gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations to River Park Gardens Recreation Program, 735 St. Annes Road, Winnipeg; or Harrow United Church Memorial Fund would be gratefully received. There will be a celebration of Lil's life at Harrow United Church, Harrow and Mulvey, on Friday, September 20, 1:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m.. This will be a come and share your memories of Lil over a cup of tea. Till we meet again, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day. Lil wrote to me during WW2, her sister Irene wrote to my sister, her father wrote to my father. In 1949, when we left England to come to Canada, Lil and her father took us all (including my mother and brother) into their home, showed us the Canadian way of life and helped us get established. We are extremely grateful to them. We will always remember Lil's visits to our homes and the home-made Christmas goodies she sent to us. Thank you, Lil. We will never forget you. - Posted by: Lilian Roberts (cousin) on: Aug 20, 2013
