HELEN (RITA) MARJORIE EURETTA COLONVAL October 18, 1932 - August 10, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in Winnipeg after a brief illness. She will be forever remembered by her sister, Rena Lloyd and by her children Bob (Judy), Brenda Swanson (Larry) and Lori MacKay (Scott) as well as grandchildren Daniel (Valerie), Matthew (Karla), Heather, Calum and Bryce, great-grandchildren Zeke, Aven, Liam and Alex. She will also be remembered fondly by her cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Laurent (Pete), sister Hazel Nunn and parents Robert and Annie Reid. Mom was born in Cromer, MB but grew up in the Argyle, MB area. After marriage she and Pete settled in Winnipeg to raise their family. She was first and foremost a mom and homemaker but also worked outside of the home at the Bank of Montreal and later at Selkirk General Hospital. Mom was a great cook and shared her talents with family and friends. She even published a cookbook "Gifts from Rita's Kitchen". Mom loved to play the piano, crochet, knit and petit point. Mom loved her four legged friends, especially cats and many shared her home over the years. Retirement was spent in Kelowna, BC where Mom and Dad made many friends. After Dad passed away, Mom returned to MB to be closer to family. Most recently she lived at the Golden Door Geriatric Residence in Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place. At Mom's request, no formal service will be held. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the animal shelter of your choice. Cropo Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have a cookbook that was passed down to me by my beloved Uncle who was a very good cook. He always referred to the "Cooking and Canning from Rita's Kitchen" as a very good cookbook. I get so much comfort from this well used and worn cookbook with the first couple of pages filled with his list of favourite recipes and page numbers. My family enjoys many of these recipes. I searched up the name, hoping to find more cookbooks and instead saw this obituary. Even though I did not know Mrs. Colonval, I just felt that I had to express how she is such a big part of a special memory and a happy time shared with my Uncle. - Posted by: Dena Elbury () on: May 19, 2015

  • My condolences to the family, I enjoyed some wonderful times with Rita at Christmas and family gatherings. - Posted by: Marlene Forgie (Brenda's former sis -in - law .) on: Aug 19, 2013
