Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD BARRY KNUDSON (BARRY) October 28, 1933 - August 16, 2013 Barry passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at Poseidon Care Centre, with his family by his side. Barry was the son of Alva and Harold Knudson, born October 28, 1933 in St. Boniface, MB. He spent his early childhood in Meade, ON where his parents worked in a lumber camp. He relates many enjoyable experiences there and spent his time playing with his older sister, and German POW's, exploring and attending school (where he walked uphill both ways (his humour). In his early teens Barry returned to Winnipeg where he finished his schooling and read the dictionary front to back (his story). In 1952, an ad appeared in the paper that Sharpes' Automotive was looking for a mechanic. Why Not--he read a mechanics manual one evening, next day, he applied for and got the job as a mechanic. As a result he became very well known and respected in that field. He specialized in electrical, wiring and later air conditioning. Barry worked for Sharpes' Ltd. for over 30 years up until their closing in the late 1980s. In 1952 Barry met Carol and they married the following year on September 5, 1953. They spent a wonderful 20 years of marriage together having three beautiful children; Kim, Loretta, and Glenn. Unfortunately in 1973 Carol died suddenly at the young age of 38. A few years later Barry met his life companion Jean and her daughters Debbie and Lisa. Predeceased by wife Carol, parents Alva and Harold, stepmother Elsie, and stepdaughter Lisa. Left to remember and celebrate his life are: Special friend and companion Jean; sons Kim of Flin Flon and Glenn of Winnipeg; daughter Loretta (Larry) of Flin Flon, Debbie of Nelson; grandchildren Cameron (Yojana) Vern (Pamela) Tina (Ricardo); Jasmine (Akka); Krishan, Myki, great-grandson Alexander (son of Cameron) Shunyata (son of Myki), great- granddaughter Uma Jean (daughter of Jasmine); sisters Yvonne, Marie (Christopher), Jolynn Christine of New York and Geanine of Kentucky, brothers Richard (Willie) of Toronto, Wayne of New York. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barry is remembered as a true friend, a good provider, talented in his field, an excellent cook, a story teller, and a teller of Tall Tales. Special thanks to staff at Poseidon Care Centre, where he resided for some five years. Memorial Service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Barry will be laid to rest at Sunnyside Cemetery, where a family graveside service will be held. Just wanted to say I love you Grandpa. It's a shame I do not remember alot of things. But what I do know is that you were always a strong man, with strong beliefs.. Will never complain about the way our lives were, knowing you were chased by dinosaurs, and walked up hill both ways.. With, noo shoes in the winter.. I know you are doing great, for I know you are once again reunited with your true love.. Please take care and always know I loved you... - Posted by: Tina Rosenberger (Grandaughter ) on: Sep 23, 2013

I was thinking of a funny story about my grandpa. He was visiting us in Flin Flon. Myself and brother and sister were younger then. But grandpa went fishing with my uncles. Grandpa that day thought he was stronger than the sun. When he got back to our house he was as red as a lobster. It was funny for us but he wasn't liking the sun burn. He didn't go out side for a couple of days. Going to miss you grandpa. Seeya later! - Posted by: Cameron Rosenberger (Grandson) on: Aug 23, 2013

Requiescant in pace, Uncle Barry. My vivid memory of you was visiting Winnipeg as a child the year your wife passed away. I always thought that you were a soldier, and that it would work out. I'm so glad it did. It was good to see you through the 80s with Jean, your partner. Two favourite people. Rest in peace, Uncle Barry. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. - Posted by: Peter Grevstad (nephew) on: Aug 22, 2013

Barry and Jean were great friends of my parents, Lea and Jerry Grevstad. I have so many happy memories of visits and parties and just good times together. Barry was a funny, kind man who cared so much about his family. He was a Jack of All Trades and a Master of Many things. I wish my cousins my deepest condolences as they mourn the loss of Barry, as well to Jean who was a loyal and true life partner. - Posted by: Cara Loncar (nee Grevstad) (Cousin) on: Aug 20, 2013
